What's the best way to enjoy qobuz through naim?

Posted by: Knipester on 26 May 2015

im currently streaming my qobuz subscription service from a vortexbox via its usb output to my chord Hugo into my nac252/300 combo.

im sure that my vortexbox is the weak link but as naim don't support live steaming from qobuz I'm having to consider other brands, number one is the auralic Aries but I'm open to other suggestions, observations, methods?

thanks in advance

By convincing Naim to add Qobuz support to their streamers !

By streaming Qobuz directly from a Linn DS to your 252.

As always it depends on how much you want to spend and how long you plan to keep the device. Good interim solutions could be the Sonos Connect or Bluesound Node. An interesting new entrant might be the recently announced Auralic Aries Mini.

As I understand it it's an Aries without the Femto clocks and linear power supply option. It adds a DAC and the ability to install a internal HDD for those who don't want a NAS. At USD 399 it's going to get a lot of interest.

The streaming market will experience a lot of change. These are all loss making businesses after all. Whatever you choose make sure it supports more than one streaming service.

+1 (But also include Tidal as Qobuz is a no go in the States)

For Tidal I'm using an Airport Express with a w4s Remedy with pretty damn good results. Hopefully Naim will update their software soon.

I'd go for a Sonos Connect. It will still be the weak link in your chain, although from what I've read, a W4S upgrade will help close the gap. Other than that...................................patience!

my linn DS has support for both Qobuz and Tidal.. My Superuniti however is still waiting..... And waiting .. Unless something happens soon, one is getting sold at a substantial loss.. And may never return which is sad .. Very sad

Sonos + remedy + linear PS/9v battery...

I agree a reclocked Sonos is a good solution right now, and you then have access to most streaming services available depending where you are in the world, bot free and subscription. However I have found a reclocked Sonos is still not in the same league as native Naim streaming.. and I am looking at devising a way of formally measuring these differences.

The linn solution into a Naim preamp or DAC is one I had not considered.. and could be an interesting alternative.

I upgraded my Naim setup to include a ND5XS and Nait XS2. My Previous system included a Squeezebox Touch for network streaming and Spotify. I had tried Qobuz with this but the difference between the 2 was minimal. However I hooked up the SBT to my ND5XS acting as DAC and tried Qobuz again and now I can hear a vast improvement. As a result I stopped Spotify even though the connect feature was very user friendly through the Naim.

Agree. Into a Chord 2Qute it really sounds excellent.

I find the DC1's and HiLine add worthwhile finesse.

I have just traded my NDX and upgraded to a Linn Akurate DSM. The NDX (or Naim) seem well behind Linn in this area, but I am keeping my SN2 for now.

I may well just put a Linn sneaky DS on the front end of my Superuniti which is my second system. for my main system I run all Linn as you do . A new ADSM on the front in tandem with my LP12 Klimax into Linn Akurate2200 Power amp. Superb implementation of Tidal, Qobuz and all the BBC radio stations in 320k ..sounds awesome!

It this your setup, if so how do you find the Aries Hugo combo.

I run a setup with Auralic and Playback Designs DAC... would not recommend a Linn with a Hugo DAC... it makes no sense because Linn has an internal DAC already and is too expensive (my 2 cents)...

Auralic Aries can be controlled by Kinsky, Kazoo, Lightning DS,...cool thing it is:-)

Yes i had one on loan a couple of months back. Very nice unit but I couldn't get it to sound how i wanted when connected to Hugo, hence my question.

As a second source, I 'm using a mac mini with Audirvana...with the latest upgrades SW it sounds sublime. Highly recommend this approach (though I was really sceptical with computer based music systems in the beginning)

Already there. Running mac mini with JRiver for past couple of weeks. Going to try an Aurender N100 soon hopefully.

Graeme, are you keeping your NDX or going completely Naimless?

Yes, it seems an age since we were told the new firmware was on its way "very soon". I'm really looking forward to the added DSD capability and the reported DSP improvement.
