Interesting documentary on the history of the famous Jazz Label broaddast today, 30/05/15, on BBC4.
It's a very good programme Tony. It's been on before and I have it on my hard drive.
Seen it for the first time Steve and apologies to anyone if it's been posted before. Some great clips and comments. If it were not for a small group of very single minded people, it would have been a diferent story altogether. As someone said, "the only great thing ever truly created in America", right under their noses, and they did not have a clue.
It's new for me Tony, sounds good.
Thanks for the tip.
I'll watch that later on iPlayer
I enjoyed this documentary, very timely as I currently immersed in my subscription to the wonderful Music Matters Blue Note re-issues.
My only slight niggle with the doc is that I would have liked to learn more about Rudy Van Gelder and the actual recording process.
Also have recorded the Wynton Marsalis Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra's Blue Note bash
Richard, you may have already seen this, if so apologies. If not it gives a good insight into what RVG was working with:
