Live broadcast of final Dead show

Posted by: Pev on 31 May 2015

Having failed to get tickets for Chicago I was delighted to discover it is being shown live in my local cinema (Showcase, Cabot Circus, Bristol) on 6th July at 6.30. It's timed for 5 hours and costs £15 - cheap at many times the price as I was up for spending around £2k going to the real thing!

When booking, a list of several other cinemas came up so it would be worth checking the Showcase Cinema web site for a show close to you - it's listed under Events.

Should be a great atmosphere - does anyone else remember the showings of the Grateful Dead Movie at the Scala in London? Could hardly see the screen for smoke! Probably won't get away with that now,  but there are ways and means....

I'll be doing the couch tour thing... doing the live stream into my listening room for the 2 Santa Clara shows and the final 3 Chicago shows.

The Live stream sounds like the thing for me although it will be pretty late in Europe I guess (not sure when the shows are due to start).

Where will you get the live stream? Is there like an official one?

Cheers.....

On a slightly related note, has anyone seen this? And is anyone buying?

Think I may opt for the 4-CD highlights set.

Ordered mine yesterday when I got the email from GDP announcing the box.

Lucky sod! Wish I had the moolah, would love that set for myself! Did you go for the CDs or the USB? Looking forward to hearing what you think of the set once you receive it.

Tempted by the usb - 30 shows at 24/96FLAC - but I've probably got more hours of Dead music already than I've got life expectancy. I'm sure in the future the Dead will give streaming access to the whole vault at hi res so I'll hang on for that and enjoy what I have in the meantime.

Nice one Pev, I checked a few days ago and it seemed sold out but Ive now got a ticket for Cabot too. Never saw them live sadly, I was in Alaska the night JG died, I remember pulling into a 'gas station' in the early hours and being told by the kid on the till, it was like God had died....sound like I might see you outside somewhere as well. Thanks again. Its 'delayed live' , sounds about right too.

I booked another ticket last night via the Showcase website so they are still available; tbh I'll be surprised if they sell out as there are usually fairly small crowds when the Cosmic Charlies (excellent Dead tribute band) play Bristol.

Glad you can make it - I'll be the old git with the psychedelic sunburst skull and flash t-shirt (assuming it doesn't snow!).

PS "it was like God had died." - waddya mean "like"??

Pev, I'm in the same place.  Tempted by the usb, but I have a ton of live Dead already and cannot quite deal with the large volume of shows.  I may buy an individual show or two if they become available independently as downloads.  But 30 more shows, when I probably have at least 50 between Vault/Daves/Dicks/Europe 72 etc etc is just not going to be all that digestible to me.

But the usb thingy is probably pretty cool.  I like the Beatles one I bought years ago

CD's... I like owning the physical media. I'm assuming that individual shows will be available after the fact for purchase in 24/96, at which point I will likely purchase some of those.
