New Synology Nas - haven't got a clue

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 03 June 2015

Hi all

My unitiserve is away getting repaired again.... so i got a Nas to use as a backup and also for my music.

I have setup a user account and it is the admin account.

There is a Music folder already present, but I can't drag and drop my music folders to it from my laptop.

Can someone give me an outline of what I need to do.....I'm getting completely irritated.

Why do I need a Share when I have a default Music folder present in the Nas?

The synology help menu is less than helpful!!!'

thanks in advance!

You need a share for the PC/Mac's networking to see the Music folder as an accessible network location (otherwise it can only see the NAS as a device with no accessible locations).

Ok thanks. I have setup Share1 and put in a subfolder titled Music, original huh...

i then copied over an album to the Nas. Swiched on NStream, it can see the Nas, i then click on the music folder and i have a lot of options. i look in all the options, but i don't see the album I copied to the Nas.

I have a 2TB hdd that i want to copy - can i just attach it to the Nas and get the option to copy over?

You need to get into Windows Explorer of whatever its called in Mac

In the Network folder you will find the Synology or whatever you've called it in your system.

Click on it & your will see the Synology "Music", "Photo" & "Video" share folders

Drag & drop the albums you have stored on your laptop into the "Music" share folder.    It really is very simple

You either need to create a share to the NAS's default 'Music' folder, or to add your 'new' music folder to the list of folders that the NAS's UPnP media server application searches for media files.

I suspect that the Synology Media Server isn't looking for the shared folder with the music in it.

Thanks Huge and Bart!

My Share was in the wrong place... I created a sub folder in the Music folder and then Nstream could see my albums.  So thats good!
