Heads up Scandi-noir fans

Posted by: Kevin-W on 06 June 2015

Last night I went to a press screening of the first episode latest Scandi-noir, Jordskott from Sweden. Oddly enough it's not being shown on BBC4, but ITV Encore.

Judging from this first episode, this looks like being a gripping ride, with yet another strong female lead in the shape of the excellent Moa Gammel's Eva. The locations - much of it is set in the forests of Northern Sweden - are stunning.

More info and trailer here: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/ep1week24/jordskott

First ep starts 10pm on Wednesday (10th) on ITV Encore.

Has anyone been watching 1864 by the way? Isn't it brilliant?

Thanks for the tip Kevin-W, hadn't heard of this new one.

Ill check it out next week.

But yes, 1864, cracking, yet difficult viewing.

Certainly shows the futility of war.

And so many recognisable faces!

Thanks Kevin. It does sound promising. It's a pity that ITV Encore is a subscription channel. I have 'Freeview' only, so will miss it.

John.

John, one of the guys at ITV said that it was likely to be repeated - either on the ITV Player or on one of the more mainstream channels (most likely ITV4) - after the initial showings. It will also be out on DVD/Blu-ray in August.

I am also Freeview-only, so I am going to have to go round my friend's house to watch Ep 2 onwards.

Indeed Chris. Torben, Caspar and Birgitte from Borgen, plus hordes of others I know but can't put a name to.

i think it's beautifully filmed (in what looks like a "bleach bypass" technique) and the scenes of life on the frontline feel real and are extremely harrowing in many respects. At the Jordskott event I was speaking to Lone Theils, UK correspondent of Politiken (Denmark's version of The Guardian) and she said that the portrayal of the politicians back in Copenhagen was very controversial in Denmark, but was felt to be a reasonably accurate portrayal of the thinking back then (and of PM Ditlev Monrad especially).

Looking forward to the last two episodes tonight.
