Modern Jet in The Game Episode 6?

Posted by: Gavin B on 07 June 2015

I've just watched the final episode of The Game. Towards the end, two of the main characters meet in an RAF hanger. The scene is set by the sight of a jet outside. I could have sworn it looked like a modern one, not one found in the early 1970s. Did this strike anyone else? Can any of the aviation experts shed any light? Thanks

I'd probably know, but didn't see the programme.  Sorry!

Take a look at the clip around 52" towards  the end.

it looks to me like a SEPECAT Jaguar, which went into service around 1973, according to that fount of all knowledge, Wikipedia.

Yes, it's a Jaguar. Retired from the RAF in, I think, 2004. There are a few at Ben****ers, the Omanis are about to retire theirs, and the Indians are still using them. Great aircraft, but ours were underpowered until an upgrade...... just before they were retired!

Funnily enough, although having immensely enjoyed the series, it is one of those where you try to spot the location errors; modern road signs, Sat dishes on houses etc even though they've clearly but a tremendous amount of effort into getting the look right, which by and large they did. I didn't spot many but this one screamed out when I watched it, not because of the Jag per se, simply that it was the wrong colour. It would have been wrap around, ground level camo back then, not the sky grey onesy. A bit sad, I know. Good programme though.

Tony, where are the Jaguars at Ben****ers being kept? It's only a few miles from me, and of course was a RAF base used by the USAF with F16 and A10s being dominant as I seem to remember as well as Cruise missiles.

I think you can see fuselages in the centre of this image. Wings sold to India? There might be a complete aircraft or two in the hardened aircraft shelters.

No problem. I work while surrounded by ex-Jagwar guys, as we call them.

Some of you may be interested in this website:  www.secret-bases.co.uk  which gives a vast amount of information on British secret/military/cold war installations and facilities.  Apparently run by an ex MOD employee who clears what he puts up there with the security services.  I find it fascinating just how many military places there are.  The site is a pain to navigate but it's very useful for identifying interesting sites around your local area.

It's extraordinary how much investment goes on without our knowing!
