Fleetwood Mac, Manchester MEN 12th June
Posted by: dayjay on 11 June 2015
Anyone else in Manchester tomorrow to watch the mighty Fleetwood Mac? First time I will have seen the original line up and can't wait!
Original lineup???
- Peter Green – vocals, guitar, harmonica
- Jeremy Spencer – vocals, slide guitar, piano
- John McVie – bass guitar on all tracks except "Long Grey Mare"
- Bob Brunning – bass guitar on "Long Grey Mare"
- Mick Fleetwood – drums
Ah, I forgot this forum goes back to the Peter Green era. Original, Rumours era, line up. I didn't like the vast majority of the early albums
I hope the "original" Rumours era line up are considerably better than the absolute crap they were when I saw them at Wembley - admittedly many years ago, on the original Rumours tour.
Out of tune, out of time, either exhausted, ill, stoned, drunk or various overlapping states thereof. Buckingham and McVie squabbling and scuffling on stage. An unprofessional shower who should have apologised and refunded our money.
They were got, without Christine, last time around but alas they won't be tonight because it has been cancelled due to illness! An afternoon drowning my sorrows in Liverpool instead

Give me any of their early albums anytime and not a single blond bimbo in sight. Sorry Dave.
Sorry it got cancelled on you.
Thanks Harry, we made up for it by drowning our sorrows in Liverpool, had a good night anyway
Well. that's something, I suppose.
We saw this lineup in Boston quite a few months ago. We thought that they sounded very good; it was an enjoyable show. I'm sorry it got cancelled.

Weren't keen then, Harry ?

The original and still the best line up. I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times. Rumours was good but a completely different kind of music to the early blues with Peter Green.

LOL! Well, not terribly - with hindsight!
My then GF told me I was too critical and seeking perfection that a live performance couldn’t provide. I maintained that I just wanted to see a group of musicians who were not obviously bored, pissed off and incapable of playing in time with each other. However, I was outnumbered by many thousands to one by an audience who were in a frenzy of ecstatic adoration from the moment the band dragged, shambled and grumbled their way on stage. Nicks could have stood and belched into the mic for two hours without a single complaint and all she had to do was move her hips or raise her arms to bring the house down in repeating waver of screaming, swooning worship. So I guess my desire to see a band, any band, bash out a good one and have some fun, really wasn’t what my expensive concert ticket covered. I should have gone to a pub.
My GF was near the back of the queue when it came to admitting she was wrong about anything. Or even slightly hinting at it. Within a month of the Wembley concert we saw some footage of the same tour, filmed at a US stadium date from a few months back (OGWT IIRC). Her spontaneous verdict, unasked for was “My god, were we ever ripped off. They were crap when we saw them”.
Never saw them with PG. My loss, but I would have been rather young at the time. Seen the mid-70s Anglo American line up plus and minus a few members on the telly and DVD down the years, and always enjoyed the performance. And while Green obviously is a god, I think Buckingham is unfairly underrated.
Harry, I had no idea how underrated Buckingham is until I saw them a few months ago. This was my first time seeing him / them live, and I certainly gained much admiration for his talents.
At that show, the band members did indeed seem to be enjoying themselves on stage. That's always an important criterion for me at a show. It means a lot to me when the artist appreciates the audience, and is/are having fun.
Bart, agreed, he's a good guitarist and they play well together nowadays. I enjoyed them much more than the Eagles who, last time around, I felt were just going through the motions, despite their obvious musical ability
A peach of a recording and a great live performance for those who might be interested.
