Problem with my Unitiserve and Synology NAS

Posted by: Richard Choong on 13 June 2015

Ok...So I have a tiny problem..I will try to summarise:

1. My US is no longer able to see my music on my NAS.

2. Initially this was the case even when the GUI showed that the presence of the network share.

3. So I thought it might be a temporary problem and reset both my US as well as my router. Didn't work.

4. Next I removed the network share. So now I don't see it on my list of network shares. I still see it on my music store though.

5. When I try adding the share back, it doesn't automatically appear on my list of network shares (albeit disabled).

6. When I try to manually add it, the system does not allow me to do so with the message "Unable to add Network Share. The share added conflicts with an existing share with the same host, IP address and path."

7. Some additional information...I recently changed my Synology from a 2 bay to 4 bay and added an additional drive and started using Raid 5 (from Raid 1 - mirroring) to expand my storage capacity. Not sure if this caused the problem since I think I was able to play music soon after but I can't be sure....

Anyone has any advice for me here?

Thanks.

Hi,

Have you seen my sticky at the top of the forums about problems accessing Synology NASs?

https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...e-update-to-5-2-5565

They broke guest access under SMB (SAMBA) on their 5.2-5565 release very badly and it seems it's a bit of a duckshoot as to how to get it back properly ... I ended up doing an install of 5.2-5565rev2 and then completely resetting my NAS and restoring it again from Backups.

If you have a Mac and can access it as Guest from a Mac but not from a PC then that's almost certain to be the issue.

Cheers

Phil

Thanks. I did read your post and I followed the steps. No joy.

anyways, I realised that new shares could be created and the system immediately recognised them. So I am trying to transfer my files into this new folder and see how it goes. Only downside is that I have to rebuild my playlists. Damn

Just an update in case anyone is interested.

Looks like I had to create a new network share and transfer all my music into this new share. I still don't know what happened to my old network share and why I can't find it anymore on the US GUI. All my music is there though so just had to move it to the new share, put the music back into my playlists and it's good. Moving music back into the playlist is a pain but there just doesn't seem to be another solution.

Wish someone could explain what happen....

It does seem that Synology goosed something pretty fundamental with access rights on these recent updates ... I couldn't even access newly created shares on mine.
