PhilP And the Ten Commandments

Hi Phil
I recon if we stick to these we will get to hear what you thought of the, well lets call it item A.
@Richard, seriously though i do apologise if any posts i made broke the rules. I do need to refresh myself on them every now and them. It is very easy to get carried away in the conversation and cross the line without realising it.
Anyway Phil, please elaborate on you last post yesterday as I'm interested in your findings.
Graeme
Ok, I haven't a clue what Richard's and your posts refer to but assume I can still post some comments on the Aurender....
I wanted to try TIDAL integration before posting and there was a slight delay because I'd had a trial last year (which didn't go well) and I needed a new account. Fortunately TIDAL have kindly let me have a second trial and I logged on for the first time this evening. TIDAL seems much better than when I tried it at launch - no stuttering at all and the response of their servers is really fast. Aurender-TIDAL integration has worked perfectly for me so far and SQ is v. good too but I've only played a few tracks and need some more time to explore and also compare with Qobuz which is my current favourite service.
To be honest I've had a very tiring day today and just want to relax.... Verdicchio.
Phil, could you let me know if you had any issues with DSD play back when you get a chance. And if your music was on a NAS. Many thanks
just to add although i have not tried Tidal before i was very impressed by it.
Graeme
Also to be honest i'm not sure which part Richard thought went against forum rules, i'm guessing Paul being involved. Anyway Richard upholds the Forum rules and I accept this, just sometimes don't realise I'm outside them.
Graeme
Graeme,
I haven't tried DSD yet. I have been using a USB HDD with FLAC files only direct into the N100. The 1-2 secs gaps in replay only happen when I connect to the lower USB port. I can only assume that port is faulty though it seems something of a coincidence that you experienced similiar gaps albeit with DSD files from a NAS.
The SQ of the Aurender is excellent as you described. I'm not sure how technically robust it is. From my point of view these are the pros and cons Of the N100
Pros:
- Sound quality is excellent (with Chord Sarum TA USB) it's the best digital source that Ive heard.
- smallish footprint
- excellent build quality
- TIDAL integration works well and sounds good
- quiet - LPS doesnt buzz
- Conductor app seems robust but I was only using folder view so didn't try all the features
Cons:
- is it technically robust? An N100H or X100L with integrated HDD is probably less hassle?
- no iPod/iPhone app
- no Qobuz integration
- USB output only (though I've been surprised by SQ through USB so perhaps this isn't really a Con)
- no iRadio
- UK price is nearly £1000 more than US and I don't like being ripped off
So, in conclusion, I really like it but it's not perfect - but then again what is ? Having heard what's possible with the N100 I will definitely change my source. I need to think hard about whether to go for a N100H or X100L instead or whether to try a Melco about which Ive heard great things.
Thanks Phil, i am having the same quandary. If only its operation was as flawless as its sound quality. I think the Melco is a good product but think you only get the full benefit if you are streaming through it, not using it as an Aurender type device.
