JRiver streaming 320kps
Posted by: David02 on 17 June 2015
Hi all,
when I use JRiver on my mac as a UPNP streaming source for the 272 it only streams at 320kps.
Does anyone knows how to change this?
thx!
There must be a setting in the setup somewhere! Check the DLA Server Audio settings.

If I had a pound for every time I'd thought that, I'd be well on my way to a Statement by now

Ask over at the JRiver forum, your likely to get a better response

Yes.
Tools > Options > Media Network > Add or Configure DLNA Servers ...
Audio: Mode: Original
Format: PCM 24 bit
I don't think the Format:24 bit has any effect - its the Audio: Mode: Original that does the trick.
When you first install JRiver it asks you whether you want an "Audiophile" or standard install etc. - iirc the DLNA mode gets defaulted accordingly. If you also want to stream to TVs or other dumber DLNA renderers you can easily configure a second DLNA server in MC with different ie MP3 transcoding.
Do also realise that you can make great use of the "Customize Views" option in the DLNA Servers window to get browse trees just as you want them - because of the wonders of JRiver you can have the views you use to browse pretty much anyway you want them. Classical music only sorted by Composer, etc. etc. Tremendously powerful and flexible.

Very likely you have the output audio format set to MP3, which I think is the default.
To change it, check tools->options->media network->add or configure media servers->select your media server from the list, in the same window click below "Audio" to display a list, make sure that "mode" is set in "original" or "specified audio format" and "format" is set either at "PCM 16 bit" or "PCM 24 bit" (I use the latter.
This instructions are for Jriver for Mac. I'm not sure if in windows they are slightly different.
With Jriver you can create different DLNA servers with different set ups re: transcoding, room correction, other dap settings, etc to be used with your Naim streamer. It's very flexible and complete. Only issue is it doesn't run on a NAS, so you have to have your computer running.

Yes! This worked, thank you.
I like the way JRiver offers the UPNP to the Naim streamer....
My local hi fi shop has been recommending JRiver forever, and they use it themselves in-house for all of their streaming needs. They run it from a pc however.
I wonder whether JRiver have any intention of putting out version(s) that will run on a nas.
Linux version already in existence.
Not sure JR can really be beaten. Can't understand your difficulty with it Wat. No need to go through all the options unless you are looking to play around. Default settings are pretty much all you need. I mean its all just digital data at that point so no worries, right?
Ah, so not difficult. Just not apple enough. Yes that makes more sense. I find the mac ecosystem strange, but it's just what each is used to.

Andy I'm not a Linux person at all. Do you know if any of those builds are meant to install on a QNAP or Synology nas? I kinda don't think so but am not positive. (Installing Debian onto my nas would be a non-starter for me; I'm not competent enough to run it!)
