Android App for NDX

Posted by: TN on 02 April 2011

Testing the 2Player App on my Android phone.  Downloaded the free version.

For the moment, I using EyeConnect on my Mac to connect to the NDX.  The 2Player app is able to select the Eyeconnect as the source and the NDX as the player.

Seems to work fine.  Only problem so far is that the souce selection seems to default back to "Local device" after a couple of minutes and I have to reselect Eyeconnect as the source in order to see the list of albums, artists, etc.

I tried 2Player for a while: the UI is nice and slick, but I would like to be able to edit the qeue/playlist. If it had that feature I would probably buy a license to get rid of the annoying ads.

For the time being I keep using UPnPlay, which is free without ads and allows some limited editing of the qeue (deleting tracks, but I would also like to be able to move tracks up or down in the list).

In general, it beats me why Naim only publishes iPhone/iPad apps and ignores the huge Android market. I am extremely satisfied with the perfomance of my NaimUniti and the features of third-party UPnP apps available for the Android platform are more then enough for now, but the very limited one-option-hardware-wise support on the software side bugs me more than I would like to admit ...

I installed the demo version of AndroMote to see how it worked with the NDX talking to eyeConnect on a Mac and it worked quite well, although it's not the most intuitive of apps. That said, it seemed to have some nice functionality.

I would be happy to develop an application for Android, but that would require Naim releasing the API for the NDX.

As it stands I am currently using a Linn Akurate DS instead of an NDX because Linn has made their API available and Naim has not.

All you have to do is inquire with Naim R&D–there are additional tools available for testing as well. It's simply a different approach.
