N-stream - Windows version ?
Posted by: Redmires on 03 April 2011
Straight forward question I think. Why can't we have a Windows version of N-stream ?
Sorry, but I don't have Apple I-this and I-that and have no intention of going down that road. It can't be too difficult to compile in Windows format.
Let's hear it for all of those Windows-based tablets out there....

I'd rather have a Desktop Client for the servers on the Mac first, as there already exists a Windows version (.NET required). This would give platform parity for the servers.
Then we can talk about a Desktop Client for the streamers–on whatever platform we can get.
asus slate. Played with one for a few minutes. Super fast. Not interested though.
"The app effectively is a remote control for the Uniti products and supports the features that are available on the product"
That's TJ quoted in another thread and that's what I'd like to be able to do on my laptop.
I'm just asking why this function is limited to apple products and not open to Windows products, when 90% of the world uses Windows. What's the fact that it's a "tablet" got to do with it. A tablet is simply a laptop without a keyboard. It has memory, cpu and runs an operating system.
The "apps" are not made for traditional personal computers, Mac or PC. They are made for mobile devices or devices running, iOS, Android etc... Naim has mentioned they will look to release apps for other platforms than iOS down the road.
A majority of the computers used in the world might be windows PCs. But I dont think that is the case for units that run "apps". I think Apple is killing that one.
If you want to use your laptop for control there is the Web-based Browser right??? FYI, this may not be available to Macs, much to your pleasure.
With your laptop you have (hopefully) even more control than the nStream app. What do you use for a UPNP Server? What are its control point options? If none, or none are acceptable, use Foobar or JRMC (preferrable), as your Media Player and Server. Then the world is your oyster.

Not so–most customers have asked for portable control, and Apple's iOS devices are (presently) the best combination of value and functionality (capacitive glass touchscreen) in one package. Xcode presents the same development environment for iOS as for Mac OS X–efficient and portable
There are at least three, possibly four different Windows-based OS varieties (Phone 7 / CE / Tablet Edition / XP or 7 Embedded) for portable devices–which one to choose (not the same)? Not nearly as efficient. Fewer portable devices (compared to Android, for example), excluding laptops or desktops.
A tablet is used in a different manner to a desktop or laptop computer as regards user gestures–this demands a completely different approach to responsiveness and list browsing than a mouse-driven (or in ancient days, keyboard-driven) user interface.
