n-Stream not finding music?
Posted by: Glideman on 06 April 2011
I'm running Win7 64bit Pro & Naim NaimUniti & all the inputs except UPnP work fine. When I try to connect to UPnP n-Stream finds my "Music" "Videos" & "Pictures" folders and tries to find the music then goes back to the list of servers. It shows the small round icons like it's going to connect but just returns to the list of servers.
Anyone got any ideas what this could be?
It's a brilliant app otherwise, as my eyes aren’t very good this app has really made a difference to the time I spend listening to my NaimUniti

Whats the network setup, i.e. is the either the server or the renderer on wireless etc.
No neither are wireless, I use a homeplug network which streams hi def films no problem so should be upto the job?
The second question is, are both set with fixed IP addresses?
I have no idea sorry, probable just got the default win7 ip?
Hi Colin,
I have two suggestions
1) W7 has a security feature that prevents the UPnP player from streaming to clients by default.
Open W7 media player and from the top toolbar then select:
Stream > Automatically allow devices to play my media...
Then try again
2) If 1) fails it is possible you have early Uniti firmware.
Go to
Setup > Factory settings > System status
Can you tell me the 'Version' and the 'BC SW'
I seem to remember an issue with early Uniti firmware and W7 UPnP server. I think the root menu of the W7 server advertises that it has 5 lines but actually delivers 4. We treated this as an error previously but I think we have now worked around it.
Regards
Tom
If my memory serves me well, I can remember there was a sticky post regarding using Win7 + WMP with Uniti. Unfortunately, I can't find it now, but perhaps you have better luck - or just ask Naim for support. Or you are using another UPnP server?
Ok TJ just hit the button before my post - so, you are in good hands :-)
Hi Tom
Thanks for the suggestions guys

1) The UPnP is running, I used a program which tells you if it is or not and it is
2) My BC SW is 10727
If I navigate to the right folder on the Uniti remote it does work but I'm asuming you should'nt need to do this??
Thanks
Colin
I suspect it is time to try a different UPnP Server.

Colin, can you confirm the main Version number. it is in the same setup menu as "BC SW" version. It should read something like 3.2.0
Also can you confirm the version of n-Stream you are running
Setup > About > app version
If I understand your description if you use the remote control and front panel you can browse your music Ok but if you use n-Stream it goes back to the root UPnP menu when you select 'Music'. Does it do the same if you select 'Videos' or 'Pictures'?
Hi TJ
The version is 3.2.0.0 with n-Stream 2.0 That's right when you chose music it goes back to the server list after showing 4 then 3-2-1 moving icons. It also does this for video and pictures.
Thanks for all your help, it's a great app apart from this though ; )

Colin -
Your response #1 to TJ's suggestion #1 doesn't actually answer his question or solve anything. You may have used a program to determine if UPnP is running, but that doesn't mean your computer is allowing new devices. Reread TJ's #1 suggestion and check that setting.
Alternatively, you click the Start/Windows button and type "Media Streaming", then click on "Media streaming options".
From here, if media streaming is off, turn it on.
If it is already on, you should see your Uniti in the list of devices with a "Blocked" button. Click this button and change it to "Allowed".
