Kindle pricing

Why do most Kindle books on Amazon cost more than the paperback?  Surely they should be cheaper?  After all, no production/printing costs etc, and the purchaser pays for the costs of downloading.  I was contemplating downloading some for my iPhone, but I'm buggered if I'll pay more for the "privilege".

Ebooks are subject to VAT and printed books are not. That explains part of it but yes they should be cheaper for the reasons you say. There are loads available free though from Amazon and other places. Google free ebooks or something similar and you'll find them.

I know all about the public domain books, and already have quite a few using Stanza as the ebook reader.  Perhaps we should start a campaign for ebooks to be exempt from VAT too.  At the moment I am loathe to keep a "hard copy" book once I have read it, as I get through at least 2 a week.  Causes real storage problems.

I don't know how much you pay for books online in Scotland or England, but I bought Keith Richards autobiography from Kobo books and read it on my iphone, I believe it was about $9.99, is that less than what you guys are paying for ebooks overseas?

Kobo's UK price is the same as Amazon's i.e. £10.99. Rip off Britain once again.
