AV2 test Tone issue

Posted by: tiggers55 on 09 April 2011

I have an AV2 connected to a NAV 175 for rear and centre speakers and connected to a NAC102 /Hi Cap/135 setup for front left/right.

The NAC102/Hi Cap/135 system works fine with CD/turntable.

Try as I might I cannot get any left or right front test tone just the centre and left/right rear.

Any ideas?

You got the right cable from the AV2 to the NAC102 it's not the standard one connections are reversed

It's reversed???? Oh for goodness sake why would they do that???

No I have a standard one (5 pin to 5 pin). Great, so where the heck do I find a reversed one?

Feel like getting rid of the lot of it really as it is way too fiddly to set up and utterly illogical.

All very simple really and nothing to stress over. The AV2 manual is quite clear on the subject, but if you need more help here's the URL for my faq on the subject :

IIRC the 102 does not have a Unity Gain (AV) input, so you may well find my guide helpful.

The reversed DIN lead comes with the AV2, and is marked NA-93 (yellow sleeve on mine).  If you haven't got one, I'm sure your dealer would get one for you, or perhaps Flashback Cables could make you one.

This is what i did. Worked fine and quite a bit cheaper if budget is a concern.

Thanks for the reply, ordered the right cable now.

I would hardly say the AV2 manual is clear on the subject (the word reversed on the bottom right of the cable diagram being the only mention of it as far as I can see) or any subject actually. I have set up a lot of processors in my time and this is by far the hardest made more complex by a lack of a decent manual.

Never mind, maybe when it actually works it will be worth it.

The reversed cable is a 2 way and there to ensure the correct pins are connected.  It also allows you to route any of the 2 channel sources you have connected to your pre-amp through to the AV2 for pro-logic or DTS matrix surround processing.  Quad LPs can be quite interesting, as can some CDs.  I recall trying it with a CD of Thom Yorke's Eraser and found the results fascinating.
