Should we be able to delete our posts at any time?

Just to make a point, I just now deleted my thread-starting post in 'Music Room", dated March 30, 2011. The thread was about how good Let It Bleed sounds. Deleting your post, if it starts a thread, deletes the entire thread, including everyone else's comments. It's as if you were never here. If your post was just a reply within someone else's thread, then just your own post is deleted. However, in that situation, it makes the thread hard to follow if someone has responded to your comment, because you can delete your post and the context for the response is now gone.
I may be in the minority, but I have never experienced a forum where one can delete their post days later. I can understand being able to delete within a few minutes (if you change your mind), but days later?
Would it not make sense that after a certain point, you can't delete your posts? Especially if your post started a thread?
I could be wrong, but that's a major faux pas in regards to this forum. If I had anything to do with this forum, I wouldn't allow it. How do others feel about this?

Just one of many Faux pas in this forum.
Seems any fixes are still in the wind, I mean it's only 4 months in, can't expect anything in a hurry. Any one would think suppliers hadn't got a clue, how to design or the ability to repair?
I consider the "old" sytem was good. Posts could be editted for about 45 minutes. Then they were automatically locked. 45 minutes still caused problems in an active discussion, but nothing like modifying or deleting a post after a couple of weeks!
An administrater could modify/delete and would do so on request if appropriate.
As for the OP deleting a whole thread - well, if that happened deliberately to one that I had contributed to, I would avoid further contributions to any future thread started by that poster.
Perhaps i've missed it, but is there any warning that deleting the OP will delete the entire thread? Did that happen on the old forum as well?
Cheers
Don
And can we please have the "Ignore" function back?
The number of people deserving of its use seem to have doubled since it went AWOL.
And no, Savage Dragon, you still do not make the cut.
John
Good questions Don. I apologize to anyone who posted on my "Let It Bleed" thread, when I deleted my post, I had no idea the entire thread would disappear. I just was exploring and still couldn't believe you could delete your post so late in the game, as it where.
Again, I'm enjoying the forum and everyone on it, and I thank Naim for it, and I think it's great, in general.
Keep your eyes on this thread, because now you see it, now you don't! (just kidding).
Dave
How do you delete a post?
I just edit it to:
PD
... , and Richard or Adam remove it when sifting through.
There is one thread that I started, which I would be quite happy to remove, if only I knew how.

Use the bin, George.
Cheers, dear Howard! Worked a treat!
The New Polish Thread is history, though it could have been added to with amusement last weekend!
Thanks from George

You really have to wonder about this software. (still)
Seems like no one cares, except us users.
Dear Miles,
The Forum will take years to perfect. The stoical have survived, and without question some have given up.
I doubt if the head of steam generated by the initial change will be apparent again, so that any further upgrades will come from pressure from Naim HQ if they think it is worth doing. [The truth is that no doubt new and improved products are more on their minds, which is as it should be IMO].
I reckon this is as good as it will get for a good while yet ...

George,
I'm afraid you're right. What you don't get at launch or with the first software upgrade will most likely never happen. Guess we have to take it as it is - I'm just disappointed by the wasted opportunity.
Cheers ... Oliver
IT WOULD BE NICE TO JUST GET THE CLOCK ALIGNED TO GMT
Hello? Salisbury
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Will this forum take years to perfect.

Come on, now,
Have you to become comfortably numb?
With thanks to posters for the line quotes
How long did the change from NAIM forum 1 to NAIM forum 2 ,(I believe that was the one that this replaced) take to "mature"?
What's with the clock ? I don't seem to remember changing my options every time there was a clock change any where around the world.
'How long did the change from NAIM forum 1 to NAIM forum 2 ,(I believe that was the one that this replaced) take to "mature"?'
Many people complained constantly for months and months. Eventually they just got tired of moaning. The software didn't change. People just accepted it.
I honestly have no problem with the new software. Quoting doesn't work on Safari and that's about it. Fortunately I know how to copy and paste and use the shift key. No big deal.
Things are getting better all the time. In time Naim will find something to consume the extra real estate to the right of our posts. How about a gallery of videos from the company, featuring interviews with Paul, as well as other key individuals from Naim, and Hoopl.la could implement a feature where you could hear the video in the language of your choice, preferably in HD. There have been substantial improvements in the software from Hoop.la lately. Just the other day I noticed a change to the gui of the Naim iPhone app. There used to be a conflict in the appearance of the nav bar at the bottom of the app, so that the title "Hoop.la" overflowed it's menu box, but I see that's been resolved. I think in time we'll probably get used to the ability to send one's own post to the waste bin at any time, and look upon it as a good thing.

When are we going to get Ignore back?
When are we going to get Ignore back?
I've asked that question repeatedly. I feel that the questioned is being ignored......
And the number of deserving cases appears to have doubled since the function disappeared.
John
May be time to put the whole forum on ignore?

An excellent idea Dave. How about some set-up videos, eg., Fraim setup, cable dressing, and of course, the Burndy workout (Adam and Richard co-starring)
Jan
Yes, I was kind of being tongue in cheek, but the more I thought about it, why not? Paul Stephenson was excellent in the video the other day, from what english I could make out through the german. There could be excellent tutorials on soldering, there could be features with Richard Dane on the history of Naim products. Adam could do a daily blog or commentary on the state of sound, with a dash of his wit and satire, and Frank Abela should be hired to do a regular feature on rooms, acoustics, set-up, and the like. The space is there, the people, resources and knowledge are there, and from a business model standpoint, could bring in even more visitors to the site, and ultimately more Naim customers.

Dave,
Off-piste here and back to the deleted thread, I hope you found a copy of Love you live !
Best wishes,
Chris
Thanks Chris. I haven't yet. I'm too busy with the toys. New second generation Apple TV, plus new software for my first generation Apple TV allowing me to surf the Naim forum, on my TV, using the Apple Remote app. When will it end? I will check out more Stones soon.
I'm still excited about what the Naim forum will be eventually. Virtual tours of the factory in video on the side of the posts—Naim could lead on the net, just like they do in equipment innovation. A totally interactive forum. Videos from their label artists.
By the way, to Chris, to all of the forum and everyone at Naim, of all religious and musical faiths, I wish you all a safe and happy Easter weekend!
Cheers!
Dave
Thanks Dave, and to you.
Chris
