Unitiserve and a Network Share

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 02 July 2015

Hi All

Phil Harris was kind enough to log into my Synology 215j and set up all my network shares so now I have a backup and a Naim Download Share. I then copied over my music to the Synology Naim Download Share.

My problem is that not all the albums I have copied to the share are visible on the n-serve app and also then on the Naim app so I can't select the missing album. I can see the missing albums in the Share and if I use the Synology Mediaserver then my Superuniti plays the album, but the Unitiserve still doesn't see the missing albums. I have deleted all the caches on both apps and also reset Naim app but it doesn't make a difference.

How can I make the Unitiserve rescan my Synology Download Share so it picks up the missing albums?   I went into Desktop Client and refreshed the network shares but this didn't change anything.

Thanks!

As I read it, you must have the original 1TB version of the Serve, which could not handle downloads. Is that right? So you have a backup of what's on the Serve, plus your downloads, on the NAS.

Or is it the case that you have the newer Serve that has the downloads folder, and that the NAS is simply your backup for both?

If it's the latter, you don't need to play anything that's on the NAS. If it's the former, and the downloads folder is a scannable network share, you should be able to force a rescan via the DTC.

I suggest you ask Phil to dial in again and sort it out. Longer term I'd sell the Serve, install Minim on the Synology and just use that. That's what I did, and I find that my Synology running Minim sounds considerably better than the Serve. It's far easier to manage downloads and backups using just the Synology, and all you need to hold the backups is a USB drive which will cost you about £65.
