Problem with UnitiServe not 'seeing' AAC files in Downloads folder

Posted by: dsc on 04 July 2015

Hi,

I am a newcomer to Naim and to this forum, having recently purchased an NDX and UnitiServe (US). Generally, it's all working just fine and I'm very pleased with the SQ. Most of my music has been ripped from CDs by the US, plus a few high-res downloads.

However, I also have a few AAC files (downloaded from iTunes). After copying these into the Downloads folder on the US, the US fails to 'see' them, i.e. they are not visible on either the n-Serve or Naim apps, despite waiting a long time and refreshing the cache. To help identify what was going wrong, I tried two other things:

1. I copied the same AAC files onto a USB stick and plugged that into one of the USB ports on the US. Result: The US 'sees' them and everything is fine;

2. I converted the AAC files to MP3 using dBpoweramp and copied the resulting MP3 files into the Downloads folder on the US. (NB I disconnected the USB stick from the US.)

Result: The US 'sees' them and everything is fine.

Is the above expected behaviour? (The US has the latest firmware, 1.7b.) If not, does anyone have any idea why the AAC files copied directly to the US are not recognised?

Have you tried converting the converted mp3 files back to aac? IME some jiggery-pokery with the metadata is required to get things 'aligned' from time-to-time. No idea why.

For instance last night I came across a 24bit flac file in my library that 'crashed' all my streamers 45sec into the track. Music stopped, app wheel went round, app reported another device (!) was using the streamer, no front display or response to remotes. As it was common to all the streamers I suspected the file rather than machinery. I remembered I'd edited the release date for this 9x file album when I bought it (as it was not the albums original release but the files), maybe the file had been accidentally corrupted? It showed ok but still I changed the date back (then forward) with the same program, now it plays fine! Make of that what you will ... Buttle .... Tuttle .... Buttle ....

hafler3o,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but unfortunately the result was the same as before.

I think this is a question for Naim Tech Support.
