Price increase in France

Posted by: Frenchnaim on 17 July 2015

Nobody seems to have mentioned it on the forum so far, but Audiodistribution have just put their prices up in France by about 20% to 30% (depending on the equipment) - before Focal takes over distribution on the French market. This means people have been rushing like mad to order before the price rise, thereby killing the market in France for a good many months... I know the euro is at a very low ebb, but it is probably at its lowest point. Will prices come down when the euro goes up????

Espace HiFi were offering 12.5% off until yesterday. I was wondering if prices were going to get near parity with the UK, seems not.

Well, at the present exchange rate, it is very near parity (£3,250 = €4,500), but it won't be anywhere near parity if the euro goes up - mind you, it could sink even lower, in which case €4,500 would be a bargain... Indeed, dealers in France have been offering massive discounts in recent weeks.

Yes getting close, for instance a €5600 SuperUniti (Espace) would equate to £3888 at 1.44 ( €/£ ) there's no way I could buy stering at that rate at the moment (tomorrow who knows?) The UK list price is £3675 so the euro would have to weaken considerably more (or dealer do that 12% discount again, but it's gone) Still I can't complain as the Focal speakers are cheap as frites here. Why buy wine on a day trip, le Roast Boeuf  ?

The CD5 XS has gone up to 3400 euros which is 1000 more than when I bought it a year ago. The Dac and ND5 XS have also gone up by about a thousand euros.  I know it's more or less the same in the UK but I don't see the products as being competitive at the new prices?

Are the Euro prices going up 25%-30% again?

Of course they won't be competitive... according to a local dealer, the French distributor will no longer be distributing Naim in a few months' time, so he is getting his own back by pushing up prices to make it very hard for the new distributor (i.e. Focal) to sell Naim products in months to come. In the process, he's managed to sell quite a lot of Naim equipment before the rise. The customer is the mug, of course.

With the euro falling down, falling down, poor euro land citizens like me will have to pay more and more for essential goodies such as marmite, Barbour jackets, or steps upward in the NAIM ladder.  This is simple arithmetic.

The marmite price rise is also a concern but easier to swallow
