Need help with son's 21st bday (Raspberry Pi)

Posted by: Sneaky SNAIC on 21 July 2015

My son is turning 21 (drinking age in US) and he wants a $20 Raspberry Pi A+.

Wanting to give him a bit more, I'm at a loss for what else I could get him?

Maybe a B, and B+ along with it?

What about a Case?

Power Supply?

Is there a kit I could get him, with popular accessories?

Thanks.

Not sure the A is a bargain. The later models have more usb ports etc.

The power is supplied by (iirc) micro USB, but a dedicated power supply probably a good idea as you don't have to run the Pi with screen + keyboard attached, but can connect from a PC via network.

A wireless dongle might be an idea, depending how wired your house is.

A case is imho a good idea.

You might also consider an Arduino. In my experience easier to tinker with sensors/lights/etc than with the Pi. Depends what he is wanting to do really.

Both Pi and Arduino have pretty good fora...

Sneaky,  I bought from Amazon:

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 2 Complete Starter Kit with WiFi (Latest Version Raspberry Pi 2 + WiFi + Original Preloaded 8GB SD Card + Case + Power Supply + HDMI Cable)

and has all what you need to start, for $69,99.

In addition you only need a USB mouse and USB keyboard, for sure he has some old ones.

Best regards.
