I couldn't agree more!

The 24/192 version is sounding wonderful through my 272+250.2.

It's completely disrupted my Friday "working from home" ;o)

I'm on the 96/24, (at my age why pay for 192?). Also got the Gordon Lightfoot 'Sundown'. Hope this is the first of many from him.....

Thats plus tax Marv.............

I have been listening to this over the weekend and wow, what a great reissue of one of my favourite albums. I am listening the 24/96 version taken from the Blu Ray. I haven't heard the 5.1 mix yet.

I have the MFSL CD version, which I thought was the best version, up until now.

If you have any interest in this, it is an easy buy recommendation, just a great reissue and sounds fantastic. I had forgotten how good Q sound could actually be, when used well, as an added bonus.

Just downloading from HD Tracks - thanks for the heads up

I don't know this album, will give it a try -  when good I will go for the 24/192, I always choose the highest quality available.

I didn't know there was an MFSL (happy to be corrected) - is this what you have?

If the new mastering is superior to this Sony/Columbia MasterSound then we are all in for a treat. I am awaiting the vinyl.

The re-mastering needs to be a bit special for me to consider buying it.  This is the only one of my Pink Floyd family CD's (ripped to NAS) that I give a miss.

Whilst some of the lyrics have more meaning & thought than most albums & it might have some good musical passages that are well played by the likes of Jeff Beck & Andy FWL,  as an album it does not make the grade with variations in mood, tunes & melody;  to me its just too monotonously morose.

It's a Roger Waters album.

Apologies, I stand corrected. That is the CD I have. That's what I get typing from work and not checking

I personally prefer the new version over this. I am sure the vinyl will not be a let down, but I can only go with the Blu Ray rip, which is very very good. It has been worth the wait.

Can be a moving and cathartic experience:

Dead Can Dance - Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun, Joy Division - Closer, Soundgarden - Superunknown etc.

But you are right, this one's as much fun as being stabbed with a thesaurus.

I, too, prefer the new mastering. I've now heard the 24/192 and a rip of the SACD. I think the 24/192 just edges it, but both beat the Master Sound disc (though I will leave it on my NAS as the new master is different in places, most notable the HAL intro to Perfect Sense). For me this is the best post-Floyd album.  I'm looking forward to DG's new album and I've been revisiting "Broken China".

For my part, I happen to think the original 1992 CD is among the best sounding CDs I own. Exemplary for soundstage and imaging. As such, I was never motivated to look for something better with the reissue. That said, I'm not really buying into all the hype generated here about better SQ. In fact, a look at the Dynamic Range Database

  http://dr.loudness-war.info/al...lbum=amused+to+death

shows that my CD (CK 47127; fifth on the list) is equal to any of the new reissues and actually slightly better than the 5.1 Blu-ray and latest CD.

Granted, I listen via a CD5x/SN2 and dynamic range is but one subjective measure of sound quality, but I have to wonder whether folks are rationalizing their purchases more than making an objective comparison to the original CD. I wouldn't mind some detailed descriptions as to what makes the reissue better than the original.

BTW, I bought my CD for $5.

.........   I did say

"... some of the lyrics have more meaning & thought than most albums .."

& +1 for joerand "among the best sounding CD (rips) I own. Exemplary for soundstage and imaging"

But + 2 for being stabbed - slo-o-wly - with a thesaurus.

Exactly.

Also, is it merely a remaster, or some remixing too? I thought I read somewhere that some tracks are rather different than in the original.

Bart, there are some quite substantial differences on some tracks, even on the stereo version, so yes, there has been some remixing going on.

Did anyone who got the CD + Bluray try using DVD Audio Extractor on the Bluray ?

As it has the 5.1 and 2 channel showing on menu in 24/96, but for some reason when outputting the 5.1 is not showing as 6 channel (as other discs normally would) when it is exported, but 2 channel stereo ?

I have just tried this and it appears to have ripped the full 5.1 channels. I only usually rip the 2 channel to play on the NDX, but from what I can see the 5.1 channels has worked and is playing in 5.1.

Thanks for the clarification David.

It appears due to selecting the 'album' folder there were 4 disc 'tracks' at the end that forced the Stereo selection, once they were unticked, all 6 channels output was available.

So problem between "keyboard and chair" and something I'll be aware of, for future.
