Carfest Crash

Posted by: Dirty Deeds on 01 August 2015

Just got back in from today's events and seen the accident close up. I was possibly as close to the incident as you could be from the Oulton Park Track, on the finish line, the Gnat when down behind the trees at the back of the circuit.

The whole thing has shaken me up a little but can't believe some of the reporting from the BBC, I never saw any panic or screaming and the wasn't any massive bang, I didn't hear anything.

To me it looked liked as the jet banked it lost some thrust and hung in the air, it then looked as if the pilot decided or made sure he crashed away from the track.

My thoughts go out to his family, he was doing something he loved for a good cause.

I saw the report on the ITN news. A terrible tragedy, especially in such circumstances with many young children around. Thank goodness there were no more casualties. My thoughts go out to the pilot and his family.

Saudi embassy is saying that the family were related to Bin Ladin, apparently.

We seem to be having an unusual spate of air accident news reports this week, what with parts of MH370 being recovered, the crash at Blackbushe, the Gnat at Oulton Park and the Spitfire at Biggin Hill.

My thoughts are with the pilots, passengers, friends and relatives of these crash victims and also people who are affected by having witnessed such tragic events.

Regarding MDS's comment about the Saudi report concerning Bin Laden - although the police are investigating, when I was based in the Middle East back in the 60's and 70's, the Bin Laden family ran a very large construction company that operated from Kuwait to Oman and Osama was one of about 50 children fathered by the founder. The family disowned Osama at the time of the initial Al Quida attacks on the American ship and Embassy and specifically following the 9/11 event.
