UPnP software for Mac
Posted by: GastonLR on 02 August 2015
I want to strean 24bit music from my Mac to MuSo controlling it with the application from the iPad. My Naim dealer recommended EyeConnect but I see that the software is not available anymore. Which software should I install in my Mac to stream the new 24Bit songs as well as the old iTunes library?
Thanks!!!
I use Asset UPnP. This seems to work well with my Muso. The chap who runs their forum, Mr Spoon, is very helpful and has posted on here to answer queries.
I don't have a Mu-So but stream very successfully from my iMac / external HDD using Minimserver to my UQ2. It is rock solid and a great piece of software. I am pretty sure you can use this for what you want to do, but I am sure someone else will correct me if not . There is loads of info on here about it (just do a search)and their website is also very useful with lots of tutorials etc.
If Asset is available for Mac then would recommend it. I've tried most of the more common ones and Assets bettered them all imo
Asset seems to be the one Naim recommend (but you'd have to search for Phil Harris's posts to find this).
You've had some great answers so far, but as someone who's just recently got a UQ2 and has been faced with the same question I thought I'd throw my opinion in.
I tried Minimserver on my Macbook first as its completely free - and you know what, it does the job perfectly.
I did want to try something else because Minimserver is not without its quirks and besides, there's a stronger voice recommending Asset out there...
So I tried Asset, and it's a lot more powerful. It really will serve up directories and files exactly how you want them. I'm quite particular and wanted to see my files presented to me on my phone app in a certain way... It took me a little while of experimentation and trial / error to get there, but Asset is quite unbeatable in this regard.
I am using the MinimServer to stream .flac files - 16- as well as 24-bit - from a Synology DiskStation NAS. It works great! MinimServer can be installed on the NAS, so no need to power up a different server/laptop/Mac. I also like that it is very flexible when it comes to tagging music, which can make the app user experience somewhat better for e.g. classical music. Currently, the MinimServer is also transcoding to WAV on the fly,. Some forum members have reported that they hear an improved sound quality when using transcoding with other Naim components, but with the Mu-so I honestly have difficulties in determining whether there is an audible improvement in sound quality (... well, it does not sound worse either).
+1 regarding MinimServer. Excellent NAS software. Like HH replaced my UnitiServe. Transcodes FLAC to WAV on the fly to my NDX.

+ Asset
Tried them all and this one is most user friendly and I had 0 problems with it whatsover.
