....wait....wait....wait....
Sorry that should have been prefaced by:
I have just received my US back from Naim with 1.7b and a new 2Tb HD.
I want to copy/move the albums I had ripped with the US to a SAN onto the US's internal 2Tb HD.
I'm uising the Move Music function from the web browser and can only seem to move 1 album at a time - and as I have over 900 to move this will take far too long.
Here's what I'm doing:
2 or more albums and the message that appears in Step 5 - Confirm Move never disappears and nothing ever appears in the Move Album Monitor.
What can I do to achieve my desired result in a reasonable time-fromae?
SAN? Is that some sort of Australian NAS drive?!
sorry, tinger frouble- I meant NAS.
Still got the problem....
Sorry, I was being unnecessarily obtuse! If your US has been back to Naim, your dealer might well be able to help. Worth a phonecall, perhaps, either to them or to Naim tech support.
Why not just leave them on the NAS? In fact, why not sell the UnitiServe and just use the NAS?
Wat, do your second and third names begin with T and F ???
OK - So I can (from a winodws 7 desktop) drag and drop the contents of the NAS MQ folder to the US downloads folder.
However, when attempting to do the same with the destination folder being MQ on the US I get a pop-up window stating, "You need permission to perform this action".
Question is then: Is there any 'real' difference betwen the download and the MQ folder - apart from the facts that the download folder could contain both WAV/FLAC and jpg files and that it is not written to by the US when it rips CDs?

I'm selling the NAS.
Hi DeepInsight
I was also a little confused when I needed to do this and didnt want to lose my Backup, so I checked with Phil at Naim Support.
He confirmed in my case this was what I needed to do (my NAS is my Backup):-
1) Set the Backup folder on your NAS as a Music Store,
2) Once it has finished scanning / updating and shows as online then use ‘Move Music’ to transfer the music from the NAS store to the UnitiServe internal drive.
3) Once the move has finished, set the NAS Backup location as a share.
4) Delete any remaining folders in the NAS Backup location using your PC.
5) Set the NAS Backup location to be a backup again.
I was still a little unsure when I started the process so I checked with Naim Support again.
Phil asked if I minded him logging in remotely to my PC and then proceeded to log in and take the necessary steps to move all the music over for me.
He did it all via DeskTopClient rather than the web interface by the way.
Once he had set the Move Music function going, it took about 5 hours for my 533 albums to move across onto the internal US drive if I remember correctly.
They are on shutdown this week I believe but if you cannot fathom it, I would suggest to get in touch with them on their return and Im sure they will help you through it.
Hope this helps.
ChrisH,
Thanks for the clear and comprehensive reply !!
I'll give that a go right away and let you know how it goes....
Wat, do your second and third names begin with T and F ???
Ouch! But my nominee for "response of the year 2015"
Good luck!
I got a little nervous when I got the message that the folder should be empty before I made it a Music Store, and as I didnt have another back up thats when I thought I should check again with Phil, just in case...

Ive only twigged this now that you have posted it joerand.
Very sharp, deepinsight
Good luck!

I have an HDX-SSD and several times for no apparant reason the music share has dropped off the face of the earth. Each time I've simply I've just simply re-added the store and ignored the warning about the store being empty without any repurcussions. I'm not totally reckless but in experimenting when I first got the HDX I realised such an exercise doesn't actually loose any data, begs the question why is the warning there??
Interesting robgr. Indeed, why is the warning there then? Good question.
I only had the one back up so I couldn't take the risk.
Maybe if I've got a 2nd back up I will take a punt on it next time.
I think the warning may be there as the US / HDX won't be able read any files that weren't created by the US, if my reading of the US manual is correct.
I too wondered about the warning, but as it doesn't state data will be lost and this has been proven by experience there must be another reason....
The MQ folder indeed is a folder on the uServe that is dedicated to lossless rips created by the uServe itself. Naim have "locked" it for a reason -- their system depends on the file structure being correct, and if home users could muck around in it, things surely would go awry and the home users would be left with a non-functioning uServe (and likely blaming Naim).
Naim Support certainly can help you RESTORE your music to the uServe. Was the backup you have created as a proper backup via the uServe system? If not . . . it may not be restorable and you may need to just plunk it into the Downloads folder.
If you sell the nas, how will you do backups from now on?
As Bart has suggested, do not drag and drop from the MQ directory. this will screw up the database.
You need to make the NAS drive a Music Store for the US, then use the Move Music feature to transfer the albums over in a controlled "Naim-like" fashion from the NAS to the internal HDD of the US.
Tony
BART -- I'm not selling the NAS, that was just to keep replies 'on-topic'.
I've been following ChrisH's guide and it's so far so good - 999 albums moved with 2 left. These seemed to have duplicate album names in the cddbinfo.txt file (although the directory for the album had the correct and unique name) so a quick edit of the cddbinfo.txt file and a rescan of the music store followed by a move album operation moved those 2 across.
Now to set he NAS directories as backup stores.....
