Simon & Garfunkel Complete Columbia Collection Box Vinyl

Posted by: Lunicycle on 08 August 2015

Has anyone any information or experience of these? There seems to be mixed information about the provenance of the mastering, the label it is being issued by and the price. I have read that it has been mastered from 1st gen analogue tape but I have also read it is from the recent hi-res versions? The label that it is being issued by seems to be Sony Legacy, Music on Vinyl or Cargo Records.Assuming that there is only one product here the best place to buy it from would seem to be the German version of the ubiquitous on line retailer.

I only have the CD box and can say it's pretty good to my ears, should have waited for high res to come out though...

...but sorry that doesn't help you as I just realized. Let's just see what our Vinyl friends have to say...

Lunicycle,

I cannot answer your question regarding provenance of the recent vinyl box set; however, I have the "Collected Works" 5 LP set that was issued by Columbia in 1981, so it's definitely all analog and the master tapes would have been fresher. That set is still available at the usual s/h outlets for a fair price. I have no issues with the set's SQ, so just offering it as something to consider.

Wat,

helpful respinse re. Music on vinyl. I thought I had read somewhere they were using some hd stuff to remaster from, but sounds like I was getting mixed up so thanks. I have found their albums are really good.

agree re. marketplace, found I could save a huge amount on 10 albums I am looking at buying. Downside is it can take them longer to arrive as some are shipped from the U.S, but this does not bother me much. I do feel a bit guilty though as I feel I should be supporting local business, but it is such a saving it is difficult to overlook.

I would also be interested to answers to the original question on the post. Seems to be a lot of confusion when read the various articles on this set.
