Free HD Download - Sonny Rollins - Worktime

Posted by: Sneaky SNAIC on 10 August 2015

First person to respond who is a fan of it.

Sonny Rollins - Worktime

I bought the 180 gram vinyl and its not my favorite...it came with a free digital download.  Let me know if you want it.

Please don't take it if you aren't a fan of the performer/album.

I'd love it, but I'm not sure it's legal for you to own the album and give the download to someone else.

I bought the vinyl not the download; they gave it to me, I can *give* it to who I want.  As long as ONE copy goes to ONE person.  I.e. I don't download it or give to others.  Similarly I could hand the vinyl to someone, but not make a recording of it and hand that out.

Either way drop me a line for the details if you want it, email is in my profile.  I'm interested to know how good the digital download is.

Okey dokey. I'd very much like it in that case, as I love Sonny Rollins, and even saw him play at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, of all places. You can mail the details to my forum name at gmail dot com. How exciting.

Just sent the mail. cheers.

I knew I'd never download it and keep staring at this little card and thinking it would make someone on the forums happy.

I like very SLOW jazz...Duke Ellington...stuff that nearly slows down so much it stops...I like the lower ranges of the Saxophone, not the upper.  Fast, high energy stuff frazzles me in minutes.

If you like the lower registers of the sax, try Serge Chaloff's wonderful album, Blue Serge. He plays the baritone, which is a rather ungainly instrument, and gets the most wonderful swinging sound from it. It's one of my very favourite jazz albums.

Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Chet Baker, Cal Tjader, Charles Mingus.  I'm still new to Jazz, hated it all my life until my Mother died.  Oddly the same thing happened with The Grateful Dead.

Jazz is now a huge stress reliever in my life...top of my head gets cold sweat when I listen to it after a stressful day.

And if you like slow, try Arve Henriksen's The Nature of Connections or Chiaroscuro. Both are on Rune Grammofon.

Cool I'll dig into these.

My absolute favs are:

My Heart Sings - Joya Sherrill, Duke Ellington

All the things you are - Take 2 - Duke Ellington

While My Lady Sleeps - Chet Baker [Sings]

Naima - John Coltrane

Sweet and Lovely - Thelonius Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Wilbur Ware, Shadow Wilson

Just a few I like so far...they don't seem to get old.

Never heard of this one?!

Not a big fan of Rollins anyway.

With the exception of the Bridge, the somewhat poppy Sax Colossus and the badly recorded A Night at the VV,  not much else does it for me. Still I would have given Worktime a listen…
