The Decca Sound Mono Years. The Birth of High Fidelity

Posted by: Dreadatthecontrols on 12 August 2015

I have just come across this vinyl set of early Decca classical recordings. I am not a classical aficionado and would be interested to hear from anyone who is familiar with this music and has heard these vinyl re-issues, are they any good?

I'm familiar with most of the originals - the Argenta LP is fabulous btw - but not these reissues.  I imagine that these are cut from a digital file? Ansermet's original Petrouchka was re-recorded some years later in stereo and became famous for its excellent performance and sound.

Thanks Richard,

I suspect that they will be from digital files, the only information I have been able to find is that the lacquers were cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios and the pressings at Optimal. have tried an email to Abbey Road but no reply.

I have seen other similar themed box sets at a shop called MDT, I know nothing of them either
