Public Service Broadcasting (The Race For Space) Vinyl

All

I recently bought this vinyl from HMV.  The music is interesting and enjoyable.

However the surface noise and crackles are terrible.

The first track on side two in particular has 4 really loud extended crackles and distortion.

I have used my anti static gun on it and cleaned using the Konosti record cleaner which has removed the static but the surface noise remains.

Visually the LP vinyl looks perfect.

I am planning on taking this back to HMV on Saturday but don't want another copy if it is going to be the same.

Has any body else bought this album. If so is your pressing ok.

Thanks

I bought my copy from HMV back in March.

Didn't recall any issues.

Just played it to check and no problems as you describe.

Cleaned it with my RCM and Zerostat before playing.

For info. have you looked at the PSB "Inform Educate Entertain" lp. Some WW2 broadcasts.

Hi Graham

Thanks for the response.  If HMV have another copy perhaps I will swap it. I was thinking of trying the cd.

The other PSB album you suggest was next on my list.  Not seen it on vinyl.

Thanks

Got my vinyl edition on Amazon (autorip included with Amazon ). Current price is about £14. Played that yesterday also. Quality of disc and packaging is good.

Just been into the Sheffield HMV branch. They have "Inform, Educate, Entertain" vinyl on sale for £15.99 (includes download coupon).

Mine is pristine and sounds fantastic.

By the way, there's an interesting blog on the Signals website. It's more relevant to Rega than Naim, but interesting in that it reveals that PSB took the trouble to ensure their record sounds good on their hi-fi.
