HDX stuck on "Starting"

Hi,

I recently had an issue with my HDX, which, when powering it back up following a period away from home, remained stuck on "Starting" on the display.

I searched the forum, and discovered that others had experienced the same problem, and that the solution varied.

I contacted Phil Harris, who thought that it was possibly a failed hard drive, and suggested that if I could connect the HDX to an external monitor, we might be able to access the internal diagnostics and see what the problem  was.

It  looked as if the unit would more than likely have to go back to Salisbury for investigation.

Before doing that, however, I got in touch with Sound Organisation, my local dealer in York, who hooked up a monitor, and discovered that some of the settings in the BIOS had been lost, either because the CMOS battery had failed, or possibly an incorrect shutdown previously.

The settings were restored, and the HDX is once again performing faultlessly.

The battery replacement seems straightforward enough, since the battery lives in a slide-in carrier on the motherboard.

I guess the moral of the story is twofold, in that, whilst there is much well intentioned advice here on the forum, you can't beat talking to the experts, in this case Phil Harris initially, followed by my local Naim dealer, and secondly, sometimes the solution is much less complicated than at first feared.

Anyway, back to the music..........Phew!

Dave.

Agree 100%.  You guys are so lucky in the UK to have knowledgeable dealers close by.  While I'm sure there are a handful of competent dealers here in the US, the majority are a waste of time.  It's invariably back to the distributor or AV Options to get informed service/support over here.
