NDX Automation

Posted by: Harty601 on 01 September 2015

Hi Guys,

I do not have a (naim) remote with the demo NDX I have currently on test. Having read up, I believe I can connect the remote inputs between the NDX and my Supernait so that I can get volume control of the SN on the naim app (in the same way as I have volume control of my Muso through the app).

Is it possible to get into the system menu from the front panel of the NDX? I've scoured the manual and can't find anything - also tried all the obvious buttons and had no joy. I think I need to make some changes to the automation settings on the NDX in order to get volume control of the SN within the naim app.

If it is not possible to change the settings without the remote, can anyone confirm that my understanding is correct - in terms of if the automation menu is set correctly (and remote lead connected correctly) then I will have volume of control of the SN/NDX from within in the Naim app.

Thanks

Harty

Hi Harty

Hold down the 'ok/list' button and it will allow you to access the main menu.

Its all in the manual in section 4.9

You just need a 3.5 to 3.5 jack cable - any TV/AV store has them or www store,  cost is minimal & there is no need to go mad with quality as it has no effect on SQ

Connect that between the NDX/ Remote Out socket & the Remote In socket of the Supernait.

Set the system automation (& as you don't have a remote) with the front panel buttons

Hold down the "OK/List" button

- Set Up > System Automation (9/10) > Preamp (1/5) > Yes

- enable System Automation on the iPad app & bingo !!!!

Thanks guys, that's really useful. I have been through the (online) manual but couldn't find how to get into the menu from the front panel - thought I'd tried holding down ok/ list but clearly not.

I've already attached a cheap 3.5mm cable as figured this would not need to be anything fancy.

Thanks again.

You might need to press the 'stop' button before holding down the 'ok/list' button.

Thanks guys, volume control working a treat - just managed to get drivers working for usb to serial cable and 4.3 update happening now - on a roll!!!!

After all this, I think I am swinging towards a new unit rather than the 2011 demo unit.

Maybe I can charge the dealer for the work i've done on his unit

Harty601, as you seem to have resolved your issue, I wonder if I could use your thread to pose another   question in the same vein and so as not to add another thread?

When I initially set up my automation on my NDX/202 if my input had been changed to AV (or other input) on the preamp, as soon as I selected upnp in the Naim app it would select the correct input of AUX1 and play track. Now after previous firmware updates I have had to reset the automation, hiding unused inputs renaming etc etc, but can you suggest what I have missed as when I now select upnp there is no change to inputs on the 202.

Thanks in advance

And sorry again if this is perceived as a hijack

Hi Maccaa,

I had a similar issue as I've hijacked my CD player input for the NDX and my demo NDX kept switching to aux 1 on the supernait.

Within the automation menu you'll see line 3/5 - "input used - Aux 1*)  *in my case

Press OK on this line and you'll find all the inputs available - click on - Aux 1 (if that is the input you would like it to switch to.

I now find when I use the naim app, the input switches to my chosen CD input and everything works.

Hope this helps.

BTW

Preamp is : Enabled and streamer audio input is selected as AUX1 within automation, is there something to set in the app

Harty601, sorry our posts crossed

Maybe I will deselect and then reselect.

Thanks

Yeah, sorry my response probably isn't much help given your last post.

Is volume control working through the app - as in the NDX is definitely talking to the 202?

Yep, everything else fine, volume functions through the amp/app.... I will have a play and report back.

Thanks

Still having problems , if I press any other option on the iPad i.e. spotify, usb, iRadio, it changes to the correct input, but does nothing when I press UPNP.

Any further thoughts?

At the risk of sounding like a member of the IT department- have you tried rebooting the NDX? I had an issue where it wasn't doing what I thought it should, powered down and issue was resolved when it came back up.

I would guess the NDX is OK as it shows Spoti & iRadio,  however can the NDX find the UPnP (NAS) using the front panel buttons,  if not then its in that connection, not the app.

Might be worth rebooting the NAS.

If its ethernet wired & has a switch,  then turn the switch off & then on again

&  .........  not wishing to insult,  but is the app UPnP input enabled ???

Thanks for responding guys and sorry for the late reply I have been out of the country, Harty601 I have done the ctrl-alt-delete of the naim world and no luck.

Mike-B thanks, have rebooted NAS, and checked that the UPNP is enabled but all seems good in that world. Everything works from the app and on the panel buttons, just not that switch over to the correct input ;(

It's no major problem, I am sure if I got really bothered with it HQ would help if I rang them.

Thanks again for the ideas
