Missing albums on the app

Posted by: Gibbsatron on 03 September 2015

Hi folks, a first post from me, so apologies if it's a dumb question.  Can't see anyone asking it before either, before you ask.

I've been ripping CDs via DBPoweramp to a WD MyCloud Mirror NAS drive in FLAC format.  I ripped four albums by the same artist earlier, using the same settings and process, yet when I open the app, only two of them are visible.

I can see all four albums in the MyCloud software on the desktop mac, and they're all there in Finder, in  the right directory.

However when I  use the app under artist/album (in order to get tracks in the right order!) there are two missing.

Curiously, when I search the app under Album alone, it appears.  This tells me it's a meta data issue, and so I need to be able to edit it somehow. What's the best way to do this?

Bear in mind that the Mycloud and Twonky are rubbish, and that's being kind, I suggest that before you proceed too far, you buy a proper NAS. In in meantime, in Windows at least, if you right click the track in Explorer, the Dbpoweramp edit meta data option pops up. That is where you sort out the metadata. When you rip, you should check that artist, album, album artist etc are correct in the boxes at the top of the dbpoweramp screen. If you get it right first time, it saves hassle later. Don't forget that after ripping you may need to tell the upnp server to rescan the directory. You can also clear the upnp cache in the app to ensure that everything shows properly.

Just for future reference, these sorts of questions are best raised in the streaming forum, where lots of people will be able to help.

Hey thanks for a quick and informative response. I'll have a look at the equivalent of right clicking for Mac.

As for WD, the software is a bit clunky I'll admit,  but the drive seems fine. What would you suggest as an alternative NAS?

I use Synology, as do many others, with WD Red drives. The other popular one is QNAP. The latter will run Asset, which lots of people like, whereas it doesn't work on Synology. That said, you can load Minimserver on Synology, and it's an excellent piece of upnp software, albeit slightly convoluted to set up. Once working, though, it's a delight.

Thanks, appreciate your thoughts, I'll investigate what I can do there.

How long between adding the rips to the drive, and looking for them in the Naim App, are you waiting?

If Twonky doesn't immediately rescan the hard drive and find new music and add it to the Twonky database, that could simply explain it. Is there a way to force Twonky to re-scan?

I've tried Qnap Nas drives and to be honest both models were crap, the WD my cloud and Twonky have been reliable and robust.

Compilation albums list correctly a big plus for me.

It's probably that they have not been indexed when you checked.

Look for them in folder view through the app.
