Although i've had 'Underneath the stars' in my collection for a while it's been mostly overlooked until now. Heard her playing at Hyde Park on Radio 2 earlier and found myself captivated.
Any recommendations on her back catalogue ?

James,
10 is a good album and very well produced. There is also Hourglass, not sure if this was her debut, but it is a little diamond roughly lapidated. She does not have a powerful voice but her strength lies on the interpretation of her songs.
(Wat beat me to that. )
I have '10' and 'Underneath the Stars' but I must admit I have listened to others and also seen her live and find her a bit too twee and the albums rather samey. No doubting her distinctive voice but I like it in small amounts. I also think it would be interesting to see her tackle a different mood or genre in her music to a degree and see how that pans out. Maybe I should listen to 'Ghost' if it is a bit different?
I'd second the Karine Polwart recommendation, two excellent albums that do show a bit of innovation.
My wife enjoys this stuff more including artists such as Angie Hardy 'Lament of The Black Sheep' which is a bit too 'fiddly dee' for me most of the time. O'Hooley and Tidow plus the Unthanks get a lot of plays especially 'Mount The Air' which I think is excellent.

I rather like Kate Rusby, perhaps occasionally a little too sweet for me as an english folk singer, but on the whole I do like her interpretations.
Her compilation albums '10' and the later album '20' are great collections of her work... I tend to listen to the earlier '10' album the most..

Wat, Tony, Bruce, Simon. Many thanks for responding. That's a great help and much appreciated.
I'll do a bit of shopping later when i get home from work
Thanks again

+1
She undoubtedly has a fine voice and, in concert, the set is nicely paced by longer instrumental breaks than one normally encounters on album. But I agree, IMO there is not a great deal of shading to Kate's vocals and I usually tire 2/3 through an album.
