On a previous post of mine "Foot tapper" asked me a question about my avatar which I didn't read until the post was locked. How do I answer it?

You could ask Richard Dane to unlock the thread or post a message in this thread and use the mention feature to send Foot tapper an alert. Copy and paste this:

@Foot tapper
