Qobuz app streaming to N272 Via Bluetooth or Apple TV
Posted by: Harty601 on 15 September 2015
I've just taken the plunge and gone for a Qobuz Sublime account - having taken advantage of the What Hifi 25% discount (mentioned on another thread).
I wondered if any of our more tech savvy members could explain which way of streaming tracks from the Qobuz app on iPhone (or iPad) to the N272 is technically preferable - between connecting bluetooth or using airplay to connect to an apple TV taking an optical feed from there into the 272?
I appreciate that "why don't you listen for yourself" is one possible answer - but I was interested in the difference in the technology behind the two ways of connecting.
I also have an ear infection currently, so hearing is somewhat impaired, but I have to say the bluetooth connection sounds pretty good with my dodgy ear!!
All that said and done, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a baked in connection for Qobuz in 4.4.
You can Not Stream flac to N272 using bluetooth

I'd assumed not (as per the muso) but it appears to play back 44.1/16bit files ok.
I don't see much point in trying the apple TV to get flac playback as my wireless network struggles with hi res files (My NAS is wired into the 272 via a switch).
Having said that, I've just done an A/B test on a Dexter Gordon track - 44.1/ 16 via bluetooth vs 192 / 24 from the NAS and goodness me (as one would expect) there is a very big difference!! To be fair to the bluetooth connection it sounds like decent hifi - playing hi res off the NAS sounds like he's in the living room.
Wouldn't it be great if Naim would build Qobuz into the streamers. It sounds like a jazz and classical lover's dream come true.

Very +1
I can stream Tidal from my iPhone to my Superuniti over Airplay, using an old style Airport Express with optical cable, so I don't see why it shouldn't work with Qobuz too. I would guess a USB connection might sound better, if you can put up with the wire.
As noted elsewhere, I have recently purchased an Apple TV and streaming Qobuz to NDS and SU works fine, and the Qobuz app is easy to use.
Note that, according to reports, the new (improved??) Apple T V, when released, will not have optical out.

Are you sure that you can Stream CD quality with Bluetooth?
have tried to Stream flac but the N272 shows a different Format.

How Do you Stream it to the Apple TV? AirPlay?
The fact that the reply I posted here yesterday got removed that fast only confirms what I said and shows the very poor standard of communication...

So many of us share that view, fishy one. I wonder if you have some inside info? The months tick by without any news at all from Naim. It would be particularly superb if Naim integrated the high re streaming services now being launched by Qobuz.

Bugger - you're right - I didn't check the front display on the 272 - AAC. Will have a play with setting up a spare apple TV.
