So I finally did it, I brought my first brand new vinyl the other day for the princely sum of £29.99. And it seemed only fitting to get the new iron maiden album book of souls. There not even my favourite band but at least there early stuff was around to be on vinyl and my recent upgrade to a rega turntable to replace my old technics table gave me in itch to get Some more.
I heard the song empire of the clouds on the radio and being old school rocker thought I'm going to go out and find that on vinyl today, and so im now the owner of 3 heavy weight vinyls and I seem to of lost a bottle of wine in the process lol.
I can't believe how much vinyl cost considering the cd is only £10 in most shops but I do have a nice centre sleeve to look at, almost makes it worth £30

Still haven't listened to it properly yet as my work and kids take up so much time and they always invade the back room to watch tv where my deck is as the front room is wired for virgin tv which I haven't got.
What I have heard does sound a little muddy I'll admit but then I have been listening to the album on my dac v1 in the front room off the cd I brought or my iMac and then going straight to analog from the clean digital sound is a big jump. Also this deck is new to me so I'm not sure if the cartridge is right for me and my phono stage isn't the best. I want to upgrade my phono stage next. Still I enjoy the vinyl more as it feels good to own and use. My vinyl has been in boxes for years and I only set up my old deck when I moved house recently which was the weakest link. playing the vinyls again had me hooked so I went out and got a rega deck which is a big jump in quality compared to my old tecnics deck.
I couldn't believe the prices of vinyl though when I've been used to getting it second hand and free a lot of the time. These hipsters making it fashionable have a lot to answer for lol,but it's nice to see it back in the shops again. The cd only cost me £10 and I ripped it into my iMac so I can stream it over the house on the upmp on my other gear. At the end of the day as long as we enjoy the purchase it is money well spent.
