UnitiServe Hard Disk Failure

Posted by: raife on 21 September 2015

I hope somebody can help out there

My hard disk failed on the US, it's now ben replaced.

I was using my Apple Time Capsule to copy data as a back up.

I realise now this was probably not a good plan.

Is there a way I can get he data off the Time Capsule and back into the US.

Fingers crossed,

Raife

My guess is that you won't be able to get the files restored from the backup into the music folder that contains CD rips. If so, you may be able to drag files from the TC to the Unitiserve downloads folder instead. If you do this, you should probably convert them to FLAC first as the WAV metadata may not be visible. Also, files in the downloads folder cannot be edited, so if you need to edit any metadata you should do this on a computer beforehand.
I would suggest trying this with one or two albums first and see how it goes. Good luck!

A lot of backup plans seem OK until you need to restore the backup

If you browse to the TC folders . . . what do you see there?  I've only ever used a TC with Time Machine; I've not used it as a generic nas for storage, so I'm not familiar with how you use it that way.

I remember reading on another post from Phil how to restore music into a repaired US from a backup on a NAS and it seemed fairly straightforward. Whether you can do that directly from a Time Capsule, I don't know, but these are just files, so it should be possible and if not then saving them to a NAS and restoring from there might be a goer? I suggest that a phone call to Phil at Naim support might be a good move tomorrow.

best
