Seattle Hi-Fi Meetup Part 1
Posted by: Sneaky SNAIC on 23 September 2015
Joe and Charlie just left, we listened to a few CDs, vinyl, streaming, etc...great time I had, and I hope they did too. So much information to discuss between the 3 of us, I think we could have talked for several days straight.
I'm clearly a noob, only poking at this hi-fi thing with a stick. ![]()
Charlie brought this vinyl and I'm going to be looking for a copy for myself:
Overall I think the consensus was that my vinyl playback isn't too bad, and is better than my digital.
The Credo were well liked.
It's nice you guys are gettin it on in south west Canada.
haha. When I lived in Paris I had to tell people I lived in Northern California as they had no idea where Washington was (except for the other one of course)
As I told SS, Midnight Sugar is one of those things I would grab on the way out the door if the house were on fire.
I mean, "friends are friends, but vinyl is vinyl!!!"
My gift was exposing you to this wonderful music.
Charlie
PS: Thanks for cleaning side one...
Hehe, it only struck me later that I grabbed the vinyl and started cleaning it. Some people would probably slap the hell out of me if I did that. Fools tread where Angels fear I guess...
Yes a great gift, I finally realize how important it is to hear other people's favorite music--by extension how important the music is in relation to the Hi-Fi. Also the importance of the source...when we played two different versions of the same record and heard something completely different it was revealing. Also we played the Monkees and the first song was thin and metallic, but the second song was pretty warm and mellow...night in day between two tracks on the record.

Yeah, I've got some vinyl I'd grab as well fleeing a fire. I wonder how many folks would say the same for a USB stick?
Kind of a half-hearted friend that cleans only one side of your vinyl. Maybe Sneaky was ensuring you'd make a return visit?
Well like I said he got white in the face and I think was trying to keep from striking me...so I only cleaned one side.
He did say let's only play Side A...so I only cleaned Side A.
Great description, love it! Hairy as a poodle ![]()
Sounds like a good time was had by all, nice to read your write ups.
Sneaky,
BTW, thanks for sharing some of your great photography. You have some great sports action shots - too many for it to have been "lucky timing." Obviously you have a good eye and sense of timing the action with anticipation.
Charlie
It's from my wife throwing objects at me when we were newlyweds...near AZN levels of gaming skills in my youth thanks to her tutelage.
I can think of one Seattlite forum member who apparently wasn't there. Couldn't get him to come, Randy?
Bart,
Hope you are well. It was Sneaky's gig. I felt privileged to be an invitee. There was a good dynamic with three of us there. The conversations remained focused mostly on hifi and music, though Charlie and I were happy to delve into some of Sneaky's exceptional photography on the computer screen. He's really very good at capturing live sports. The four hours we spent flew by. I suppose you could get four or five folks together, in which case you'd likely get times with two groups talking on different topics, and the digressions would increase. Even more folks and it becomes more of a social gathering. I think Sneaky was really seeking feedback on his system sound, and that was accomplished. When my time arrives to host, I'll have Mohit on my list ![]()
Wanted to pull an easy one off and get it in the books, then go from there.
Lot of difficulty getting several people together at the same time. I think it would be better with a couple more and spend more time as well, have snacks and stuff.
I think since we have been able to make one happen, which it wasn't clear we could at first, things will just get better.
I will promise to serve snacks for part 2, amd we can add a couple people. You all can see what my avatar is about.

Then Joe will have to out-do Charlie and myself, MangoMonkey will have to raise the game even more, etc...
The last time I was at Mango's, he had put out a nice spread. So I am sure he is up to the task.
Well when it rolls around to me again, you guys are back down to the Nait XS and water to drink.

I assume you're talking about the electronics ![]()
... or was there more?
Mango's always great with parting gifts for his guests.
Last time I was there I left with a Powerline ![]()
Mango had good music AND good food!
MM, are your ears burning?
Charlie actually did part with a Powerline.
No gifts this time though.
I'm done playing dealer.
I've been trying to have joe over since several months - just something or the other going on...
Maybe November? Things will have settled down by then...
Hey Guys, glad to hear of a music/hi-fi get together in my area. I have been on this Forum since 2000 but I almost never post and go away from reading it for long periods of time except for times like now when I am getting ready to make some minor shifts in my system. I have slowly been working my way up through Naim equipment since I was first introduced to it in the early '80's. I always love getting together with other music loving Naim-o-philes. I am right in Seattle and would love to meet any other such types. If you are ever interested in having another bloke tag along let me know. I have been reading the Forum now for a month or so again and was happy to see the title of this thread come up.
Gary,
Contact me when you can. See my profile...
Charlie
We need a contact list. ![]()
P.S. Richard Dane still hasn't got back to me about sending Naim TT mats to the next Seattle Naim get-together...Richard?
Hey Guys, thanks for responding. Wanted to say as well that the report of the gathering passed the most important acid test of all - the choice of music played. It's that old walk into someone's place and check out what music they play and what books are on their shelves. Loved the albums pictured - some of my faves - and the ones mentioned although I am not familiar at all with one of them.
Charlie,
Will contact you in the next day or so.
Gary
Gary,
Nice to hear from you. There is also a friend in West Seattle I'm hoping to hear from here, we'll see.
Sneaky,
Forgot to mention I checked the legs on my RP6 and indeed they are used in the opposite direction, each set in a short, conical aluminum sleeve. I guess when you graduate to the RP6 Rega flips the legs for you. Wonder if there's a tweak in it for your RP3?
I am free this week and next, then will be gone for a bit. I would love to have all the vinyl fans hear my digital playback and advise me on whether to get more serious about vinyl (which I have neglected for many years).
I promise to serve snacks...
Charlie
