272/250DR speakers

Posted by: Dan43 on 28 September 2015

Seeing a few threads here and looking to push the button on a 272/250 combo as per HH version running MiniMserver.

Having been through a few systems and having to move on the other equipment I am settling on this new combo.

I have a set of PMC DB1i (that were on a DAC-V1/NAP100 system) and will use these for now, and have demoed and eventually bought S400 for a system that is now moving on. I liked the neutral delivery of the S400 now looking for a bit more punch/drive but not too flavoured in the bass delivery.

Thinking for slim floor standers or well rounded bookshelf/stand mount (tried LS50s before not for me, bass to flowery and blooming), and have a little wish list and would be grateful for any input knowing it is such a personal choice and having gone through a hefty speaker demo session 2-3 years ago when settling on those S400s. Budget is about £900-£1250 ish, usual ex-demo or used at higher spec or same budget but as new.

PMC Twenty 21, Focal Aria 926, Tannoy XT 8F (reviews look great), Spendor A5r or A3, will demo at new home, small room about 4m square.

Cheers

Dan

Biggest problem was the speakers, I have always been a Proac fan (since the were Celef), and first tried the K6 at home, they delivered bass but it seemed somehow to be detached from the rest of the sound spectrum, next came the Focal Sopras, heard the #1s at the dealer, pretty good, but then tried the #2s at home, they fitted the bill perfectly except for their styling which went down like a lead balloon with SHMBO.

Lastly, had a home dem of the PMC Fact12s, all boxes ticked, arrived today, great out of the box, but I trust that the run-in will make them better, just the Super lumina Burndies to go then.....

Glad to see another Fact 12 fan here. They take a long time to loosen up, I would say propably up to 6 months! Enjoy Peter

As a matter of Fact they do sound very good in Peter's sonically challenged living room.

Hi Steve.

I have managed to somewhat dampen reflections from my stone wall by using a large GIK panel on ' first reflection'. ( this discretely tugs away behind the listening sofa when not needed). It now sounds better than good!  Hope you ok Peter

I'm sure that Naim will be delighted that the Super Lumina speaker cable betters Chord Odyssey
