Quick NDXquestion

The answer to your AIF question is yes.
To anyone reading AllenB's response who wants a little more information: Page 203 of the Synology manual shows a screenshot of transcoders available too, so technically you should be able to stream AAC (and by extension ALAC) to the NDX using a Synology NAS with transcoding enabled for AAC.
Even though the manual doesn't state ALAC specifically, according to people on their forums, ALAC is included in their "AAC" umbrella, ironically as long as the files are in an m4a container and have the m4a extension, and not an aac extension. Confused much? I wouldn't blame you.
The website says yes but AIFF is not one of the formats that can be streamed from a UPnP server according to the manual (see excerpt below)??
6.2 Audio File Compatibility
The audio files stored on the UPnPTM servers attached to the network may be in MP3, AAC, FLAC, WMA, WAV or Ogg Vorbis formats. Files must be free of any digital rights management playback restrictions such as the Apple iTunes FairPlay system.
Regardless, you can still use the Synology's AIF transcoding service and play your files.
Hi Rich
Did you ever get a definitive answer to the AIFF question?
I have an NDX on order and am considering a Synology NAS. Our house is entirely Apple based (MAC, network etc)
My basic requirement is to stream to the NDX using n-Stream AND stream to other rooms using itunes (using the itunes remote/airplay/apple tv2). It seems that AIFF would be the best option - as should work with both set up - and I think stream direct from the NAS without transcoding?
Before I go on a spree of converting Apple lossless files to AIFF and re-builidng the library on the NAS I too could do with the definitive answer on AIFF!
