Uploading information to Naim's music database

Posted by: EJS on 23 April 2011

Hi all,

Does anybody know how we can upload information into the Naim music database? The question came up when I was ripping Karajan's classic account of Bruckner's Symphony No.8, and the HDX recognised the disc as Dino's 'Just Piano... Praise'!

Hello EJ

From The HDX manual:

AMG:The All Music Guide database is the primary database that the HDX-SSD interrogates when a new CD is inserted in its drawer. The AMG database can be interrogated manually at www.allmusic.com

Note: The data provided by AMG is occasionally inaccurate or incomplete. It is possible however to submit corrections at www.allmusic.com

It appears to be a manual operation though – Take a look here.

Painful!

Regards

Peter

Peter,
Thanks - but I understand that the Allmusic website only provides a small subset of the database, as a teaser for the full product. Without access to the details, filling in a correction form doesn't seem to make much sense!

EJ……Could not agree more with your conclusion; seem likely to be a complete waste of effort in fact.

Well, filled in the form just in case - perhaps AMG will pick it up.

I have ripped over 2500 CD's and had 5 with incorrect data. I simply amend the data in the Music Store with the rename facility.

Of course, but that solves only the important bits - the extended metadata remains associated with the wrong discs.

Hi,

I am missing out - how do you access this extended metadata?

Thanks

Performers can be searched, other info is only provided via nserve (click on 'i' in album view) EJ

Ah, that explains it there, is not normally much info re performers on my music, and I do not use nserve, just DTC and my associated Music  collector database, to which I have continually added data from AMG whenever I bought CDs -  frequently.

EJS,

If you have the Naim rip on a remote store you could copy the files into a network share, so that you have full control over the metadata - then delete the album from the store.

NOT a good solution though. Be better if Naim gave users some control over what is in their database.
