Still struggling with AV2

Posted by: tiggers55 on 23 April 2011

I have now, thanks to the posts in here, got my AV2 hooked up into my Naim system. The main system does L and R front and a NAP V175 looks after centre and L/R surround. Am I right in thinking that in this configuration the system cannot decode DTS tracks as try as I might I cannot get the DTS signal to illuminate on the Co-axial input, just the D/PLII. The source is a Blu Ray disc with both a DTS and DD soundtrack but I have DTS output selected on the Blu Ray player (a Sony). Any ideas?

Don't really know why you are having this problem.  The AV2 can decode DTS no problem.  Try pressing MODE then 0 (zero) on your remote, which will set the AV2 input to AUTO (or DIRECT the source is analogue).  If it doesn't do that, then switch your AV2 off/on then try again.  The only use I can see for the PLII is for pro-logic tracks, or giving a pseudo version of that with digital stereo sources.  In fact I would recommend setting all the AV2 inputs you are using to AUTO (or DIRECT if you are running any analogue sources direct into the AV2)

Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling the issue is the Blu ray player. I cannot select auto mode and when I look at the modes I can select mono/stereo/movie/music/Neo6/Neo6C these are applicable to a source of PCM Stereo. Therefore I can only conclude that despite what I think the Sony is outputting it is not DTS. Will look harder at the player and less at the AV2.

Try connecting another digital source (if you have one) to the AV2 and setting that input to AUTO.  If you can't, the next thing to try (in my experience) is to reset the AV2 and possible the AV2 remote (it's in the forum faqs somewhere).  If you still can't set AUTO after that, then ask Naim service dept for help.

My AV2 occasionally has a temper tantrum and does silly things such as "lose" speakers etc, and this is the route I usually follow to solve it.  The inability to set the mode to AUTO is just another example of this.

Doesn't seem to want to let me edit the post .... hmmm.

Anyway.  If you do reset your AV2, make sure to take a note of your settings first!  Saves the hassle of digging out your sound level meter etc.

Thanks for your replies. Checked out the Blu ray output and all seemed well so did what you suggested and reset the AV2 and then set it back up again.... now it's sorted... I now have DTS.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated... am very happy now and it sounds amazing. I cannot believe how much better it is than my previous Yamaha/Denon amp set up (which was still using the Naim system for L/R front). The AV2 and the NAP-V175 are worth all the setup and connecton hassle!!!

Thanks again

You're welcome.
