Is this the best the forum will be?

Posted by: BigH47 on 04 May 2011

It seems the "improvements" have stopped.

Closing the "comment" threads seems to be the only thing that has changed.

iPad/Pod/Phone support seems rubbish judging by the state of some peoples post, large spaces, the inability to edit properly.

If this is regarded as a good and fit for purpose, I for one (may be the only one) don't think it is good enough.

It has ONLY been 5 months but hey no rush eh?

Whatever the stats say, the forum sadly has gone dramatically downhill. You just have to look at what a Friday night used to be in the music room to what it is now, or any other day for that matter. Despite my efforts in the past to make my best contribution I am no longer interested in making much effort here, I look in less and less and my web activities are now mostly elsewhere.....

My humble flat is open to any forum mambers.

There should be grace period for editing typos and grammar.  Half an hour or so feels right to me.

After that, I think editing should require a "reason why" box.

Hook it seems pointless to ask for extra features, as you said or maybe a "mark this thread read" button.

Some of the most basic things are not right extras look like being impossible.

edit/delete controls will be within the next thirty days with timed out feature.

My only complaint is that quotes still don't seem to work on Safari, but then if that really mattered to me I'd switch to another browser. Apart from that it all seems fine - I can't even remember what the old forum looked like.

Well at least hoopla managed to design a new logo, so not all that time wasted?

I miss their old logo. Please bring it back.

New logo at least shows they can get their priorities right

I propose we start a new thread for the friends of the old logo, missing it already.

The thing that bugs me most is the complete lack of iPad functionality, still no visible task bar in the post reply box, limits my participation here as I just can't be bothered to contribute while not at home.

New logo, same ....

It still amazes me that guys are having trouble using this forum, on iPad/phone etc and even some browsers are still incompatible.

How do these products work on other forums?

How did they work on the previous forum?

It not as if there is only a handful of Apple mobile products about is it?

I assume Android stuff works OK?

I confess I'm at a loss to understand why, unlike all other forums and suchlike I browse, this one on an iPad doesn't function as it does on a normal computer.

Posted on: 15 May 2011 by Tony Lockhart
Strangely, the forum app for iPhone loads slower than the regular website. What's the point in that? And it doesn't allow landscape format from what I can see.

Paul -

Are we ever going to get the "ignore" function back?

I am so Dudi'ed out.

Thanks.

Hook

Posted on: 15 May 2011 by BigH47

We are apparently being ignored.

All many would want, is AT LEAST equal functionality of the old forum, never mind any new and trendy stuff.

I will say again I find it amazing that the "new" product was worse by a long way than the one it replaced.

This should have caused the warning bells to fall off the wall with overuse.

Does anyone here shop on-line with Waitrose? They 'improved' their website a few weeks ago, and it really is almost unusable. So bad, in fact, they've sent us five £25 vouchers. Are you listening, Naim?

It is called Microsoft syndrome and is well known in the computer industry.

(Work just gave me a Windoze 7 laptop - who designed the user interface: the Marquis de Sade?)

As long as the forum works well on my new ChromeOS GooglePad then I'll be happy.

(Just kidding I'm moving to an IPad2).

not here often anymore,

not that anyone notices,

Wearily on I go, pain and misery my only companions. And vast intelligence, of course. And infinite sorrow.

Seriously ?!  I thought this whole new layout thing was exactly for iPhones and iPads, surely what on earth was the point then ?

Posted on: 22 May 2011 by BigH47

Seems the "designers" have run out of talent, that's my guess.

OK the Scottish forum ain't as pretty , but at least it's a lot more user friendly, the ability to mark a whole subject "as read" is so useful.

Posted on: 23 May 2011 by u6213129461734706

Maybe it's been mentioned before, but I was reading best jokes on my iPhone the other day, and many of the posts were cut off just short of the punchline.

Dave

Posted on: 23 May 2011 by TomK

Yes that's been mentioned at least twice by me and I'm sure others too. The app doesn't handle long posts or threads very well.

Also still no zoom, orientation, reply with quote, etc etc....

This is info,  not another moan

The clock & latest posts is all over the place

e.g.  HF Corner last posted shown as 07:32 today,  but open it and its posted yesterday

The GMT time shown is still 1 hour out

Plus observations - judging by the daily post activity & the names that are not with us these days, it looks like a lot of folks have given up

I don't believe the who's online data that is shown - at 09:45 GMT (08:45 Hoopless Time)
