iPad 1 or 2?
Posted by: Klout10 on 08 May 2011
Hi,
I'm considering the purchase of an iPad. Main purpose is browsing the internet and running the n-Serve app. Now I wonder if I should go for a new iPad 2 or buy a used iPad 1. I have the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand iPad 1 for about half the price of an iPad 2 ...
Any thoughts/opinions are welcome!
Regards,
Michel
I would go for the used Ipod 1. The added features of the Ipad 2 would make little difference to general browsing or running apps such as N serve.
Thankx for your quick reply!
The only meaningful difference are the cameras, if you want to use let's say Skype on the go a lot, go for the two.
Thankx again guys!
Go for iPad 2–dual core processor, video mirroring, better graphics and better Wi-Fi support all add up to better performance. The newer model, based on Apple's rolling support for future versions of iOS, will also have its usable life extended when newer versions of the firmware are released.
I'm sure I read somewhere the i-Pad 3 would be released in the Autumn.
Ipad 2 for sure - some of the new apps have features disabled because of the lack of power on the ipad one.
Though if I had an ipad 1 I wouldn't be upgrading tbh.
As sheffieldgraham mentions, iPad 3 is rumoured to be out this year. Knowing Apple, it will probably be the machine people wanted from the start; iPad 4 will have some features removed, people will complain, and iPad 5 will be released with the missing features available as a cost option through built to order.
Cheers,
OW

A cynic after my own heart! I checked out my youngest's iPad (mk1). Decided it offered no extra functionality over my iPhone other than its larger screen and possibly longer battery life. As a web browser I found it much less easy to use than a Windows7 laptop, but then I am a very competent touch typist. (>60wpm).
I only change computer gear if my current one has broken, or is not capable of something I really want it to do. Perhaps I'm just a cheapskate.
Of course, YMMV
Willy.
Using N-Serve I have found that the iPad2 manages it's power a lot better and lasts longer.
Hi,
Since the iPad 1 I was offered appeared to be a scam, I've ordered a new iPad 2 today ...

Or ipad 2 now and upgrade to ipad 4 in 2 years with faster processor and better screen.
