NDX, sorry another dumb question!

Posted by: Rich27 on 10 May 2011

I currently have my NDX set up connected by ethernet to a Netgear wireless bridge which provides the connection to my wireless network.  I also have a Sonos ZP90 connected to the NDX (by phono coax) as I use this for streaming Spotify premium.

Now I notice that the ZP90 has two ethernet ports on the back, so is it possible to use the Sonos as the wireless bridge to the NDX? It would be sweet if it could but I seriously doubt if this would work and am afraid to even try it

I believe but am happy to be told otherwise that sonos have a proprietary wireless network exclusive for their devices.

Yes, you can use the ZP90 built in switch to allow any connected device connection to your network. No configuration required just plug it in....as to any difference in sound quality, you wil need to test and respond back to us. I would be interested in the results. I assume you have a wireless bridge or other sonos device hatdwired elsewhere to your router ?

I have a netgear router which has iMAC, Synology NAS and Sonos Zonebridge all hard wired into it in the study.

The NDX is in another room currently connected to the wireless network by a Netgear wireless bridge.  The ZP90 is also in the same room as the NDX. In this configuration would the bridge in the ZP90 "share" the wireless network in the same way as the Netgear can, other posts above say that the Sonos just works on it's own proprietary mesh network?

I may just give it a go and see as long as this is not potentially harmful to the NDX!

Ok first the good news, I can confirm that the Sonos ZP90 works as a wireless bridge for the NDX.  NDX connected by ethernet to the Sonos can find all the music stored on the NAS.

Now the bad news.  For some reason when connected by either the Netgear bridge or using the Sonos as a bridge the NDX will no longer play any of the hi res flac files downloaded from the Naim website.  These all play perfectly when the NDX is wirelessly connected to my router???  WTF anyone explain this one?

pull your head out Gary.  There is getting to be a good amount of good music showing up on HDTracks.  I am generally not into the offerings of Naim, Linn, and B&W to some extent, as I only need so much contemporary (boring) combo jazz, vocal jazz and world music.  But I have found some decent albums on HDTracks.  I took the opportunity to finally flesh out the early Stones catalog which is nice.  The Beatles USB with 24-48s is sweet.  Free downloads on artists websites such as NIN, Buckethead and tons of lesser known, but VERY worthwhile, artists.

It is coming buddy.
