iPhone via HDX

Can anyone advise where I am going wrong? I want to play podcasts from my iPhone via the USB port on the front of the HDX.

The HDX does not seem to find it even after leaving it plugged in for an hour. The manual says it can take time to find the first time depending on how much is on the iPhone. How long should it take? I have deleted all music from it, should it be taking over an hour?

The HDX can pull music from any iPod or MP3 player that presents itself as a data storage device however it does not have the authentication chip that is required for use with iPhone / iPod Touch or iPad so it does not have "Made for iPhone" certification (or support).
