Worst James Bond Theme
Posted by: Moog on 29 September 2015
My vote for the worst goes to the current one from Sam Smith, i don't mind his previous songs but this is dire. Apparently it sounds like Jackson's 'Earth Song' (hard to comprehend this was same person who wrote Billie Jean....) which is probably why I hate it so much.
To keep the post more positive -
The Best song- Live and Let Die
Best Film - From Russia with Love
Best Book - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Your opinion's please- no picking on Madonna is allowed.
Best song: Goldfinger
Best film: Goldfinger
Actually, I quite like Jackson's "Earth Song", certainly a lot more than "Billie Jean". I must be the only one.
Not a big fan of Madonna (to put it mildly), I'm afraid. Hope that doesn't constitute 'picking' on her.
"My vote for the worst goes to the current one from Sam Smith":
I heard it and the music was fine but I thought someone had over-dubbed some joke vocals and then relaised they were for real!
So not for me.

I'd pretty much agree with that. Except for the superfluous apostrophe.
For me it is poor. Did he say he wrote it in 20 minutes
Not my favorite Bond theme, but it matches Daniel Craig being my least favorite Bond.
Allegedly this may be his last effort as Bond - I won't mind his departure one bit.
A provocative post, and since the best of's were included in the OP, I'd go with;
Best Bond - easily Sean Connery, a man among boys.
Honorable mention - Daniel Craig, took the role to a more edgy, progressive character appropriate for a modern audience.
Worst Bond - easily Pierce Brosnan, too caddie, overly smug, and generally unbelievable in the role.
Best Theme - Live And Let Die was a great anthem for its time, but shouldn't Bond themes include a steely, suspenseful 'Secret Agent' type guitar in the song? Few did. That said, my best would go to Sheena Easton's outstanding vocal on "For Your Eyes Only"
Not a specific fan of James Bond films, but:
Worst Bond: Roger Moore
Best Song: From Russia with Love
Best film - the first three (with perhaps Goldfinger edging it)
Worst film - Quantum of Solace
Best song/theme - OHMSS
Worst song - Madonna's
Best Bond - Connery
Worst Bond - Lazenby (although OHMSS is one of the best films)
Bach could compose a forty minute Cantata in a week and he went blind from working in the dark with candles.
Only Mozart seems to have been able to write music as fast as his pen could run.
Beethoven used to take months to compose forty minute Symphony.
So if Herr Smith can make a great song in twenty minutes, he must be a greater musician than Bach, Mozart or Beethoven, which proposition I find unlikely, if not entirely impossible.
The evidence points otherwise though ...

Less bothered by the song than how they do the opening credits. Following the classic bond style some have been really good.
I can take or leave Bond. I though the last one was too long and overindulgent. Craig seems too brutish. My wife would not agree.
I actually though Brosnan was alright, and he is a good actor as has been shown by some of his output since. He seemed to grasp the essential silliness of it all.
Bruce
Yes so long as they can fit some boobies into the opening theme tune scene I'm happy..
Best Bond Girl. Caroline Munro. The Spy Who Loved Me.
Barbara Bach. Same film I think.
Thanks for all your comments, interesting responses. Memo to brain don't do negative posts better to find out what people like rather than not like.

George is that really you! Welcome back. I do not care if the new song sang by Sam Smith took 5 minutes to compose, it does sound pretentious to me and is trying to be sort of Pink Floyd style music with little success. However if Pink Floyd wrote the new Bond theme, now there's a thought..?
Best Bond song - Gold Finger by Shirley Bassey ( An iconic song for an iconic hero)
Dear Romi,
I was quite pilloried for calling Mr Smith pretentious ... six months ago!
I wish any composer to sound like themselves, just like Bach, or Mozart or Sibelius, and many other have un-mistable musical finger-prints!
Any performer to have a personal stamp of style ...
A person may not like it, but if it is honest and felt, then one cannot but admire it!

Can't say I like the latest theme, but only heard clips from it a couple of times.
A lot of great Bond Themes, but this is my favourite.
Evil Edna thought it was comedy vocals over the top of it, until she realised it was actually Sam Smith singing.
I'm blissfully unaware of the middle Bond films except some channel surfing and seeing Moore or Brosnan. I was very poor and moving around for a long period.Only good thing is all the great cars used.
Sean greatest Bond and I like Craig, He takes it to a serious level. Recently saw the opening of Casino Royal chase, unbelievable but wild. Then TV cut to 15 commercials so I surfed.
I also vote for Bassey that Gold Finger song was and still is Iconic.
Might have to go against the flow here as Goldeneye with Brosnan is one of my favourite Bond films. I also like Adele's "Skyfall" as theme song. We're all different I guess!
I can't believe the Sam Shit song became the first Bond theme to top the charts.
