British born eh?
Well that totally absolves American gun legislation from all responsibility then. Darned limeys.

As ''Newsthump" reported, almost all of these massacres could have been avoided if America took the brave-but-obvious step of banning schools.

America has not refused to allow individuals to defend themselves since the beginning.  There are some NEW things...new in MY lifetime and everyone else's here.  Stuff we've never seen...very recently.

The numbers come from specific areas.

http://www.gunlaws.com/GunshotDemographics.htm

The shooting sprees I don't remember happening like are happening at the schools until a few years ago. This is what I know: it's huge media now, just like wars where we can now watch the missiles hit building...people actually shot live on our devices.

This is a new thing...folks planning stuff because they know it will make it all over the world instantly.  Nutty folks that have been bullied.  When I was a kid I got bullied...got the crap beat out of me all the time.  I did think of killing those bullies, of course everyone wants to lash out when they are bullied.  I had guns all around me since I was 6, went hunting, etc., but I never pointed a gun at anyone.  I was raised not to kill, life had a bit more value back then...it has almost NONE now if you watch the media.

You folks that don't have guns want other to lose theirs, and your reason is that CRAZY people produced by Earth 2016 love to kill each other so they can go out and go viral at the same time.

Earth 2016 is producing psychotic mass murders.  We can try to take their guns but, they'll still be crazy as a shithouse rat and will find another way.  Why are producing these people and how can we stop it?

It's so sad that some people in 2016 still have to live in a society where they need to carry a gun to defend themselves.

Indeed, but they do.

Perhaps you should make it obligatory once you have reached the age of (say) 9½ to own a gun and have to use it in self defence and the defence of other innocent people around you, all of whom will be doing likewise..........?

Crazy people with knives can only do so much damage.

Crazy people with machines guns can do way more damage.

No one needs machine guns to go hunting.

Only muskets should be legal.

Right we all have "machine guns" here.  "Machine Guns" are used at all the shootings here too.

A few lines stood out for me from the reports yesterday

He owned thirteen guns, all legally.

There have been 294 mass shootings in the USA in the year to date, defined as 4 or more killed or injured in a single episode. More than one per day.

Membership of the NRA went up dramatically after the Sandy Hook killings, a fact of which they boasted..

His place of birth seems somewhat irrelevant. The saddest thing is that these school shootings have actually become routine, merging into one another. Until people grasp the ideas that owning guns makes people less safe, and that no nation should define in it's constitution that it is a civilians's right to bear arms nothing will change. So nothing will change in my opinion.

All liberal lies...this wasn't a problem for the first several hundred years was it?

It wasn't until we became more like Europe and the UK.

Look at what you typed: "have actually become routine."  They weren't before, genius...why?

Why have they become routine?

Posted on: 02 October 2015 by MangoMonkey

Muskets for sport. That should be it. The ones where you stand and have to reload.

Does anyone really think an armed militia will be able to take on the US army if it came to that?

And if it really came to that, would it matter that the militia did not have arms?

Posted on: 02 October 2015 by Sneaky SNAIC

Once again you think you can control what type of weapons bad guys have.

Do you remember Mumbai?  How long did those guys slaughter before someone with GUNS showed up to stop them?  Seem to remember that country being under the foot of the British who had lots of them.

It seems every single generation believe bad stuff can't happen in their generation.  Just like after the "War to end all wars."  The Hitler types rely on this fact, and there's at least one every generation.

And armed militias have clearly never been able to win any victories against odds throughout history have they?  What will lose every single time against an armed force is a hammer.

Needless to say in truly free locations, bad guys can do more damage.  In small, locked-down surveillance states like the UK, bad guys can't quite do so much.

Folks think stuff that works on a small island (88,000 sq mi), will work just fine in a country with 3,800,000 sq mi, with open borders.

Sorry, you've lost me on that point, despite being a genius.

As for the Mumbai shooting, these were terrorists. The guns used to kill them were wielded by the authoritoies. On average terrorist attacks have killed 31 year in the entire world following 9/11. Conflating terrorism and the daily carnage from private individuals is of course a routine tactic of the NRA to increase the fear, and their justification for arming everyone. I'm not sure it is relevant.

Are you changing your mind as the thread goes on?

I'm not sure he was a brit -

His father, Ian Mercer,  was from Lancashire & moved to US to live the mother, Laurel Harper.

Harper-Mercer's birth was registered in California.

The brit thing seems to be because for whatever reason he holds a British passport.

Bottom line - he was raised & educated in US.

Regardless of the nationality of the shooter. It's insane that's still legal to own a gun....

Just put a heavy tax on legal gun ownership, and a more heavy fine on un taxed guns. Simple.

Would that be when the European immigrants began to land and set about slaughtering the indigenous population?

Perhaps the Omega Man film inspired him, too

Is the inspirational connection "Charlton Heston, Omega Man lead actor and 5 times president of NRA"? Not seen it, is it any good?
