Naim Aro ?

Posted by: al9315 on 04 October 2015

Does anyone think there is even a vague chance of Naim producing more of these arms ever ?

They must still have the tooling

I have seen a couple for sale - they seem to go for around £1200 - £1500 !

I would love to consider having an arm where I can have 2 or 3 cartridges, and just be able to change them at will. I feel I would play my LPs more if this was a possibility OR

Are there any other tonearms around where one can change the cartridge with the arm in situ, without damaging bearings etc. ?

I currently have a Linn Ekos, and the arm has to be removed etc. quite a laborious process.

Thanks

Al

Anyone heard the new one from Audio Origami?

I'm not sure but isn't the new Roksa Pug a unipivot design?

I would look at a vpi tonearm. You can easily change arm and cart and adjust the vta on the fly. Simple and they sound great!

The thing that I now really regret about buying an Aro - is not buying it sooner

What about Kuzma Stogi S?

They make 3 unipivot arms.

Odd for a company to ignore customer interest, but hay ho Naim isn't what it was

Hi Igor,

A name from the first Naim forum, nearly 20 years ago. Are you the same person.

Hi Igor,

A name from the first Naim forum, nearly 20 years ago. Are you the same person.

Regards,

1. My bad. Few long days at work make brain forget. But at the same time Naim does not make any turntable arms anymore and I did not see any harm. I apologize for the link.

2. I believe I am the same person. I did not like the newly created forum so much compared to the old one. After 10 years of absence (taking care of next gen. at home) I returned.

If you don't want to go down the secondhand route with the Aro then this Roksan Nima unipivot arm would meet your requirements and is a bargain around £500.

i went to a Nima about 3 months ago. Oh my god what a bargain, its fantastic value for £500.

No unauthorised commercial links

What are unauthorised links? Was someone advertising you mean?

Posted on: 10 October 2015 by Richard Dane

Martin, it was a link to manufacturer/dealer site.  Naim request that no such links are posted here as it's too open to abuse.  A little more leeway is given in places like the Music Room, Padded Cell etc..

Peter that is insane for a product without Naim parts support!

Is that the street pricing for a NOS ARO or used one?

I have just had one fitted to my LP12, replacing a AO serviced and rewired Akito 1.

i have only heard an Aro deck briefly, but compared to my old arm, my Uniarm now unravels the music with much more detail and flow, and the (admittedly minority of) records that sounded brash and muddled previously (for example, 'I Should Coco' Supergrass reissue) are now sounding far more listenable and enjoyable.

Quite possibly the bass and top end of a bit more diffuse now, and the leading edges perhaps not so showy, but i'm hearing more music now, for sure. And, of course, now i wonder what a slightly better cartridge would do......

that said, i am really looking forward to putting the Akito back on my old Valhalla deck that's been stored for a while now.

Ah thanks for the clarification Richard

IMO If Naim did a 1000 off build, it would sell out

A thousand new Aro tonearms?

I wonder, “How many have been made in its entire production run?"

I am not saying that it is not a superb tonearm, but I wonder if it was ever anything but a very niche product, made in small numbers for a minuscule proportion of the market for first quality tonearms.

I would not guarantee it one way or the other, but I’d put a sporting bet that a thousand new ones would more than double total production!

Mmm... Given that Naim Audio prices seem to be the only thing to keep pace with house price escalation, and that the retail price at the end of 2010 was just shy of £1,900, notwithstanding its technical superiority, I doubt there would be that many folk in the market for a new Aro today.

Not so sure Clive, how much is a Linn Ekos SE? Linn still sells loads of them.

Mark

Linn must have laughed all the way to a share rise when they heard of the demise of the Aro! No wonder the Ekos is selling well.
