hi everyone if i was to upgrade from a hicap dr  to a supercap to power my nac 202 is there a big difference is sound quality, thanks aceone .

Keep the hicap Dr and spend the money changing your 202 for 282.
A much better use of funds.

Paradigm shift.  The 202 is a great pre but the  282 at 2x the price just puts the music on a different stage.

i think i will stay put for now and get a nac 282 at a later date thanks for your answers .

Aceone, you have to audit the 282 before you buy which presentation is totally different to 202.

202 with 2nd PS upgrade would be an even more gilded turd, but the same turd right?

 

Turd used loosely as the 202 may be where I land first if I go separates...but the end goal is 282 for separates (for me)...IF I ever separate.

which power amp do you use? Which speakers? Which source?

 

Supercap DR will give you much temptation for a NAC 252.

 

I think 202/HCDR is really quite good if - 

 

- the source is excellent, 

- if NACA 5 speaker cables are used (terminated properly at both ends, no strands of copper missing)

- if Compatible speakers are used (ask Naim HQ directly which ones these are)

 

The usual suspects are Naim speakers including Ovators, Dynaudio, PMC, Focal, Neat and Kudos.

My 112/150 showed me the way to more inpired and innovative hifi.  My day with a 202 NAPSC at home proved to me Naim know what they are doing.  So inspiring was the 202, I returned it immediately and bought a used 552 that happened to be available at a very attractive price.  No tongue in cheek or faint praise intended.  The 202 was so brilliant, my faith was won on the spot.

Agree with suggestions above. Aim for the 282 first, and stick with your Hicap for now.
