New naim app and daylight savings

Posted by: Cornwell on 07 October 2015

Loaded update to Naim app on iPad and 4.4 firmware upgrade to Uniti2 yesterday to enable TIDAL. All fine but now every time I go to the Naim app I get an annoying dialogue box asking if I want to auto adjust clock to daylight savings despite having set this ON via Other settings. Bug or just me?

Same here. No idea how to fix this. Changing the settings does not make a difference. Happens on the iPad, but not on the iPhone funny enough.

I have noticed this on my iPad too. Just completed the update this evening.

Thank goodness for your resposes!  This is the first ever forum I have joined to raise an issue and seeing the long dialogues on other topics I wondered if I had got the etiquette right for the experts to respond. I guess this has probably already been spotted and will be incorporated in NAIM's next update.

The daylight saving issue was fixed in beta testing, and it should not be doing what you are seeing- it worked ok for the beta group! and certainly I don't get what you are getting.

I'd suggest reinstalling the app - it should then ask whether you want the setup to make auto adjustments for daylight saving - click yes and the pop up should disappear.

It is an IOS prob I believe-it started happening on our iPad a week before the Naim update

I had the initial prompt after completing the update and installing the app but no subsequent reminders.

Thanks for the suggestions. I installed the TIDAL ready v4.6 of the Naim app as soon as it was released on 5th Oct. It behaved normally until I updated the uniti2 firmware to 4.4 when it was released the next day when the daylight savings and alarm options were introduced alongside the TIDAL functionality. I have reinstalled the Naim app this morning but continue to get the daylight savings dialogue box every time. I updated my iPad to ios9.0.2 yesterday. Problem remains.

Same problem here!

very very annoying. It is 4.4 issue not an iOS issue.

I was not havping this issue with new app on iPad Air earlier today, but after (lengthy) update procedure to update 272 app now does it all the time.

this is very poor.

naim please find a fix, preferrably one that doesn't mean I have to dismantle the hifi and spend an hour in 'update' mode.

As previously posted I don't have issues either  - if it was an update issue wouldn't we all be experiencing this anomaly? I had the initial pop-up box which I checked and nothing since.

Naim recommend resetting the Naim device to the manufacturer's settings after a firmware update is complete.  Might be worth trying that if you haven't already done so. From memory you do this by going via the spanner button on the remote.

I will have to see if this worked, but in app reset seems to have resolved issue.

one thing that really annoys with these updates is loosing all the preset radio stations...

Posted on: 08 October 2015 by David Hendon

If you lost all the preset stations, then the update probably did reset the unit...

anyway I'm glad it finally worked for you.

Thanks Dave, yes did full reset, followed instructions to the letter.

Posted on: 08 October 2015 by pgmvveld

In my case I have done the full factory reset after the 4.4 upgrade, but issue on the app remains (iPad Air 2 with iOs 9.02).

Maybe a long shot, but could it be the issue is experienced by people outside the UK who have a different timezone setting? Potentially that could explain why certain customers experience the issue and others do not. I live in the Netherlands. Maybe other people having this issue can confirm what timezone they are on.

Anyway I will try and re-install the app as suggested earlier.

I also followed 4.4 update instructions to the letter and performed factory reset. Am in UK.  I have also performed another factory reset for good measure this afternoon and reinstalled app on iPad but no joy....... But just now have installed the app on my Andoid phone to see if the problem shows itself there which it didn't. I then reconnected via the iPad app and the issue has gone away! Anyone still with the problem care to try and reproduce that?

I'm in the uk for record. What solved my problem was using the in app reset data. I did not try deleting the the app and reinstalling it.

It is all a bit odd.

Hi.

I was also running into the same issue.

What seemed to resolve it was the process that Cornwell suggested, however with one difference on my part. In this case whilst I was seeing the issue when running the app on my iPhone, when I then used the app on my iPad, it seemed to correct the problem.

Now, irrespective of which device I use, I am no longer being incessantly prompted for daylight time settings.

I get it every time too.

Known issue, Naim is working on it.

Posted on: 09 October 2015 by Cornwell

Thanks Manu. I raised this issue. For my understanding, what exactly is a "trade member" in the scheme of things and what happens next? Do we/I now curtail our activity with regard to this thread?  Will Naim let us know details of the resolution in technical terms? Sorry, as a retired technician "We'll take over now thanks, or "issue fixed" won't cut the mustard. Cheers.

What Manu means is "this is a known issue and Naim is working on it". There isn't anything else to say at the moment, but "they are working on it" doesn't mean they may get round to this sometime, it means "they are working on it now".

In fairness to Cornwell, he was just trying to clarify what was a very terse comment. Appreciate everyone is so busy these days, but would it really hurt to have provided a little more detail. E.g. That Naim have been able to recreate the issue or even better, that the issue is understood and the problem identified. Either way, that would mean that the issue has been correctly dealt with and a resolution forthcoming.

Given that the designation "trade member" is not really that familiar to some of us, it is a fair question to ask if Manu is representing Naim here or is it simply conjecture. Hard to tell from the comment made.

Thank you London_r for your support. You are spot on. I was going to leave it there and decided I was being over sensitive but as you have commented I have to admit that my first reaction to Manu's comment was of being dismissed like a school boy. Having taken the time to raise the issue as early as I could I didn't expect such a terse ending.

Dear All,

Thanks for your feedback on this issue.   Apologies for not jumping in quicker.   There is a bit of history to this issue as it was quite a complex one.

When Apple launched iOS9 they introduced an issue on one of their API's for getting time information and the default output it returns should be in a Linux format.  What comes back is garbage.   It appears to be an iOS9 upgrade issue as some Apple devices suffer from it and some don't, but the end deal is that it breaks our automatic daylight saving system.

We are in the process or pushing out a new iOS app that works around this.  It went into public beta on Friday and we aim to have it out into the app store as quickly as possible.  The Apple app store review process is currently quite slow so do bare with us.

As a side note this only happens on iOS9, the iOS device is affected by this OS bug and if a Naim unit has been factory reset so has no time zone information in it.   If you have any Apple devices on iOS8.x (or an Android device) then using the app on that and clicking Yes on the prompt will then resolve the issue.

Best regards and again apologies for this unexpected inconvenience.

Thank you for your detailed and well explained response Steve. I'm also pleased my suggested workaround of connecting via the Naim app on a non IOS 9 device is validated.
